haha, probably one of the most boring competitions I've ever been to. Not even because its a "modern" competition because I really enjoyed watching last year, but because it was just so dull. The MC was the biggest idiot who tried to pose as a stand-up comedian and wasted so much time. He was one of the reasons the show was so hard to sit through. G-Sharmilla was one of the most horrible performances I have ever seen and to top it off, he lip-synced the whole thing (even at the afterparty) and did a really bad job at it. So here are my critiques on the teams (and Id just like to say that I totally called these placings):

VIBE: I was pretty disappointed. These guys didn't make a very good comeback. The routine was full of gimmicks, stunts, and mediocre dancing. Pakki kannak gimmick was a nightmare, and I can't imagine what was going on when you guys came up with it. The "slam dunk kobe bryant" gimmick was kinda cool but as someone else said, texas already did this in csun I believe. Overall, just a disappointing performance, good to see Jaskarn though! He's always full of nakhrey and energy!

APD: Looked like a typical khalsa junction performance. Personally not really my style. It was pretty slopped good gimmicks though! Loved the khundey coming out of the sky and the tower.

DRP: Probably the greatest DRP performance ever. The mix was amazing, everyone was in sync, execution was actually a little more traditional than your typical drp. the mela scene was awesome! They had two towers standing next to each other holding a swing with a girl to sit on. Well deserved second, but it coulda been these guys or empire at first.

LBC: Good to see you guys back! Honestly I really enjoyed watching you guys although a lot of people are saying otherwise. Again, mix was awesome and I need to get my hands on it. Easy-E coming out was sooo something lbc would do. Routine was chiller, but lbc always pumps it up with their execution and nakhrey, never fails! Well deserved third

SFU Elite: Had some good energy, better than other SFU performances I've seen, but it just didn't have a wow factor. Just an average bruin performance.

Jawani: These girls keep improving every time I see them. They've totally improved on execution and the whole structure of their performance. They should have had some more new stuff though. Could have placed 3rd. It was a toss up between them and LBC.

BMW: Typical BMW performance. Sorry, but the outfits were not too appealing. What was with the colour on the bottom half of your sleeve? haha. THey had a pretty huge fan base though so no surprise on people's choice.

EMpire: Awesome and enjoyable bruin performance. Well deserved. Loved the new outfits!

Empire all the way. I think they deserved to win. Uniforms were dope and lbc didn't impress me at all. Soormay was tight but I think bmw needed them. They shouldn't use other teams to try to win.

Bruin was AWESOME! Every team BRROUGHT it!

MY Placings:

1. LBC- Every dancer was soooooo graceful, and the each movement was just soo clean and proper, the Nakhre (HAI! :-*)! They just made me soo happy, especially performing after so many gimmicky teams...i felt like i was finally watching BHANGRA! love love love....only thing negative was the ending stunt: already done by UCI!

2. DRP- Ive seen you guys at DDA and Socal this year, and i have to say, this routine was SOO MUCH BETTER! you guys suprised me! Thought u guys were gonna do the three man tower in the mela segment, but u busted out with the swing, VERY CREATIVE! Knew you guys were gonna place as soon as i saw it!

3. Empire- Great energy, great synchronization, great formations--> TYPICAL EMPIRE! It was a GREAT performance, but there really was no WOW factor, as many have mentioned. i thought last years' Bruin routine was wayy better. i expected better, but obviously knew you were gonna place!

Otherwise:

MC: would not SHUT UP, some funny jokes!!! Atleast he pronounced BHANGRA right, unlike last years MCs!
Sickest Intro Video: APD, although VIBE came close!!!
Best Vardiyan: BMW (so bright n colorful)!!!
Most Overused song of the night: Miss Pooja Asshiq
Best ol' school song of the night: Dil vi daiange, nachi jo sadde naal... ;D
Most improved: BMW...the Bash performance had nothin on this one!
Most "this is it?!?!" performance of the night: VIBE...sorry, too many gimmicks n stunts, WAYY to modern for my taste! sloppy as well!
Afterparty: AWESOME!!!!!

well bruin is THE modern competition of all modern competitions and jawani always goes half live half recorded and i really don't see the half live portion hitting that well at bruin. just my opinion, sorry if it seemed offensive or anything, didnt mean it that way

well thats not true 2007 united went live and ubc went half half they placed year before that tbt went all live they placed...it matters how u perform not whether you are going live or music....

Here's my take on the show...

This was my first time going and I had some high expectations, but in general, the show didn't quite hit the spot.

VIBE...for Bruin being the "all star lineup" sort of modern comp...I just don't see how VIBE belonged here. I knew nothing about them before really, and well...their performance didn't leave much to be desired either. Perhaps better suited for competitions circa 2004. Way too many stunts...very little dancing.

APD...nothing stuck to me here except the tower. It was an average performance.

DRP...I still think your BOB/Bruin 08 performance was the best out of you guys, but still enjoyed this one a lot, loved the swing!! What I particularly like about DRP is that you guys are entertaining and modern but you still use a good deal of traditional steps. It's fun and folk(ish).

LBC...left me wanting more, in a wait that's it...where's the rest of it kind of way. LBC always has chill performances they all look so relaxed and graceful and just at ease...it was a typical LBC, but I personally think you only won third because you're LBC and not because of a 'killer' performance. Mix was sick. Dancers are individually awesome.

SFU Elite...energy was great here, but nothing wowable really. An average coed performance. Y'all need something to differentiate yourselves or settle into a certain style.

Jawani...I love you guys so much I dunno, I think you get shafted every freaking time. For me, it was you instead of LBC at third. High energy, awesome expressions, I lowe it. "Tupacisalive" I don't really agree that this isn't the type of comp they would place at...yes they had a live portion but it was pretty short, and in general they are a fast, super high energy traditional team which has a place just as any modern high energy team at Bruin. I think you gals should try a full live set once! It would be sick.

BMW...you guys have gotten much better, except the highlighter pink vardi...ha. Hmm..not quite my style, too much crowd pleasing action...(go figure the viewer's choice award) and everyone dances differently. I'm yearning for more precision.

Empire...speaking of precision...I knew they would win before I even went. It was obvious. This is definitely Empire's kind of competition. Boxes in the beginning were cool. I have all the same comments as everyone all the time though...clean, energetic, catered crowd pleasers, sick formations. I'm yearning for something new from Empire.

JATT...ha. I really disliked the first line of your intro video, and what was written by your team in the program. It's fine, we all get it, you want to preserve traditional bhangra, me too....but it's really not necessary to indirectly insult pretty much every team that doesn't go all male live....and why the heck would you perform at Bruin if it went against your entire platform?

I got a little bored towards the middle-end and everything started to look the same and blob into one team. The lineup was too similar in terms of style...

One suggestion, why waste money on G Sharmilla or anyone for that matter, when he is going to lip sync the entire time...?? Use that money for something else!!

So in the end I realized, as much drama as there is, I like watching Canadian competitions. It's just an entirely different atmosphere...

Bruin Bhangra was an AWSOME comp! every team was sickk!

VIBE- had an old school style. you guys were sloppy. gimmicks were coool. liked the basketball gimmick you guys had. i think you guys need to change your style up. happy you guys made a comeback!

APD- mostt entertainning teamm of the night! hella energy and pretty clean. all the guys looked the same. loved the performance although you guys went up 2nd you guys brought it! best team of the first half! loved the 3-man "makin it rain" in the kobe jersey! we actually saw how the stunt went up this time because it was backwards! sick stuff. the kundey coming down was sick! def deserved to place! you guys have a bright future. keep on bringing it! need to clean up a lil bit. but overall great performance. you guys are my new fav team

DRP- clean and entertaining. didnt think you guys would place. but the performance was better than socal! loved the swing part. very creative! you guys didnt have that "WOW" factor. loved the old songs and the intro. keep it up

Jawani- went half life and half music. the girls voice is amazing!! you guys had hella energy and were clean. facials were really goood. you guys def brought it. but then you guys didnt have that "wow" factor. one of my fav all girls team!

LBC- loveedd you guys! def deserved first in my opinion! such a chill performance! you guys are one of my fav teams! loved the comeback. also loved how jasmine came out! she is an amazingggg dancer! loved the bike part. one of the best LBC performances!

BMW-you guys got so much better. you guys looked cleaner than bash. i thought you guys looked better without soormay. but it was exciting to see them come back. you guys were clean until soormay came. you guys are sick. but you guys dont need soormay to win. you guys should work on the guys having the same style. the mix was sick! loveed the jerk part.

SFU ELITE- energy was good! you guys were so much cleaner than socal! no wow factor in your performance! the girls were good! you guys are gettin better. average performance.

EMPIRE- dayumm you guys had a hot performance! bringing the girls out of the boxes was really cool! you guys had hella energy and were clean. loved the formations. one of the best coed teams! you guys are really creative with you formations. but i thought you guys were better last year at bruin. but sick stuff!

Bruin overall was great! loved it. pre party and after party were bothh sick!
