Thanks for the suggestions!
We are working on finding a travel agency that will help discount or even donate airfare for teams that we may choose that will be out of CA. This would only be provided to teams that are traveling from out of state. However, nothing is confirmed. At the most we do however provide: Hotel accommodation for all nights, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, shuttle to and from venue to the hotel (in a limo), free tickets to the after party and any other things that may be needed that weekend. We try to take care of our teams the only expense that we currently have not set up for is travel expenses.
As for the traditional/modern break down...we have been battling with this issue since the first year. People automatically assume Bulldog Bhangra to be considered a traditional competition however; the committee wants to steer away from that notion as far as possible. Please do not get us wrong we LOVE Bhangra and enjoy traditional Bhangra but we want to evolve just as Bhangra is evolving currently.
We want to bring a variety of teams who ALL have the same shot of winning not just a few teams who think because they are performing "traditional," Bhangra have it in the bag. We have chosen extremely diverse judges each year and are hopes are not to be categorized as a traditional competition. We want all teams to feel like they have an equal shot of winning without jeopardizing their individual style. With that said, no we will not split the score sheets.
Like we have mentioned to other teams that have had this same question we don't give more points or favor teams who go live or have all tradition Bhangra steps and music. By traditional Bhangra we look for Bhangra based moves that are basic in every routine and we look for accuracy to these steps. It is not necessary to use jhummar, mirza etc. We want you to use Bhangra steps and moves that are universally used. Hopefully that was explained clearly. The reason that we have that portion in our judging scale is to ensure that are Bhangra competition stays a BHANGRA competition and not a battle of stunts. Otherwise we would have teams who come with little Bhangra and more acrobatic moves and that is not what Bhangra is all about.
Hopefully that makes sense. If you feel we are not on the right track we would love to hear your concerns. Again, we are evolving we are not here to state we know everything about Bhangra but we are trying our very best to provide a entertaining and fun weekend for patrons and performers.
Thanks,
Bulldog Bhangra eBoard
