I was an alternate on VCU's bhangra team all of this past year. I would sit on the side with an expression of admiration as the VCU starters prepared for the coming competition. Although they danced with some of the best talent I've ever encountered with pure determination to become better dancers, my eyes watched my fellow VCU alternate Balraj Singh Bajaj (also a member of our new Joshiley Jawan team) as he performed several series of forward rolls and gymnastics. It was amazing....

I was introduced to Bhangra through them by attending their weddings and parties in the late-80s...

benny singh- for coming to my house 2 years ago and doing the blowout routine 3 weeks before blowout (been doing bhangra, every day since)

Jasmit Brar- Just a great teacher, an amazing captain, amazing dancer and an even more amazing friend

Adnan Khalid for introducing me to it and convincing me to showup to support uconn's fresh team back in 2006...
then his cousin, Adam Javed Chaudhary of BU/Mera Punjab for helping me to become better and always supporting.
and Sulman Mirza of Orange for ALL he did when i was taking over uconn's team back then in fall 2006.

im so glad i got into it, met lots of great people i woudlnt have met otherwise!

Wow I must say I have a few people that helped me to where I am.

Vic (SGPD) - Well not just him but his team, what first grabbed my interest in bhangra and pushed me into the world

Khalsa Junction - The team I started watching and first copied off of, mimicking there moves and learning how to dance.

Ruby (GTA) - Who believed in my abilities and basically provided me with a whole team to experiment with and whose ways of managing a team I have somewhat adapted.

Ofcourse all the people I have danced with at one point or another even if it were for a practice (GTA, Mehak, SGPD, Nachdi, Rooh, Shan-E, Trinjan, Flawless, York, UTM) all of them have influenced me to where I am today

oh and SIAC - For first exposing me to the world of live and I LOVED it lol.

These are the names (plenty more but a quick list) that have affected me ofcourse these are major but all the people I have met and competed against along the way very well share an equally as important of an impact.

1 person is really hard to choose...though i gotta 1st say my cousin who did ignite a fire in me that started my passion for dancing

2nd-mariam (mafzal) if she hadnt walked up to me 1 day as i was leaving college and asked if i wanted to perform bhangra at global fest college life probably would be sooo boringgggg.....that day definetly changed who i am not just by allowing me to actually keep doing what i love but also changing who i am-and after doing bhangra w/her even before i never thought that we could actually get an amazing team put together that's actually going places-if it wasnt for her optimism and also roop's optimism id probably just stay to performing at dearborn

Omer Mirza - for being the most sarcastic and annoying person I've ever met... [jk .....ok not really =D ]...and never settling for anything less than what a standard we set demanded..and always being really supportive of any sort of discrepancy...and truly aspiring to achieve "what we do" ...best.

Ajit Singh - for inflaming a new found inspiration in me to pay attention to the most minute of details and showing me why and how they matter...and for encouraging me to dance because I believe, without ever having to directly say so...and for helping me indulge in the bliss of bhangra and showing me that any art form could could be appreciated, because the beauty of it truly is in the eye of the beholder.
