Very true. Although for teams that don't compete at the national/international level, I do think it's fine for them to use parts of other team mixes for performing at local/regional/cultural events. This all comes by seeking PERMISSION from the original team who made the mix and giving that original team CREDIT when displaying their performance video for others to watch.

I too would prefer them to make their own mixes, but some teams have real limited sources. Yet these days... a lot of people can mix their own songs or know of someone who can mix songs well, so this "jacking of mixes" is just disgraceful imho.

My two rupees,

~ Basim :)

A few points I'd like to bring up regarding thing issue:

I honestly don't see a problem in a non-competing team such as the one above using or "jacking" mixes as long as they ask permission. You have to understand that youth teams like this don't have resources to make mixes, nor are they willing to go through the headache of putting one together if its just a school pep rally or culture show. These kids look like they're in high school or younger. Why should we take away resources to the younger generation who are passionate about the dance but they don't have anything to dance to? I definitely agree thaty they should ask permission though. Otherwise, let them use it.

I agree with you on the point of asking permission but the fact is that they didnt. sure some people dont have the resources but i mean you could always ask someone to make you one, i mean how many people do we have on btf that can make a mix in 20 mins. (they did get it from here because this is the only place i posted the mix) and this also leads to people not putting up there mixes anymore on btf i.e. Sgpd

Hey guys I am actually from that team. I didn't come up with any of the routine so I don't have much say about it. If you guys could post videos and let me know which parts of the different videos you think look too similar that would be great.

1 - How do you know the organizers were on BTF before they planned this routine? Note: They didn't post the video on BTF here themselves... am I right?
2 - I can't see the video but especially if it's younger kids - chill out. They're using you music at a cultural show or w/e. Be flattered!!!!
3 - Let's help out future groups/kids and lay out a couple guidelines on the BTF Mix Sections, yeah?

Guidelines for Using Mixes:

a. Give credit to whatever teams mix you used, perhaps in your dance's introduction and/or the show program
b. Seek approval of the team and/or individual who made the mix
c. Do not rip an entire mix, use only chunks and work hard to add your own few songs too even if they are simple

Sunny, Justin, and others - Step back a second. These kids are on BTF now, they're reading what you said. If I were these kids I would feel very unwelcomed and weary of BTF, possibly older bhangra community in general, because of you guys on this thread. They might be the next generation... why don't we be cool and try to guide and teach them instead?

Hello, I am also a proud member of the team Sher5abi.

We are a new team of COLLEGE STUDENTS.. not high school. WE did not have any affiliations with this group prior to all this bs starting. I dont quite understand why people are so bent out of shape. As a team we did not know what was going on with the mix. We had a third party mix it. So its possible somethign got f ed up in the process. so i appologize if we offened u guys. seeing as i guess its relatively easy to do. We wish to be competitive but didnt realize we would get so much bs along the way. As a team we worked hard to come up with the routine we got, in addition to this we also looked up to various teams in how they performed. But in NO WAY did we intentionaly steal anybodys routine!!!!! This is not our style. I personally would never condone such actions. So if you guys got a problem we can meet up and talk if u guys are local. and the live boli i dont know we had one of our team mates uncle sing it? i dont understand how thats not original? sure its a over a vocal already recorded. but how is that stealing? The boli portion is def innovation in itself. Various teams use similar songs and mixes end up being similar in accordance to what is hot and what is not. In addition to thsi the chak doh geh routine im sorry if its similar its entirely possible that we got a stolen mix. WE appologize. But damn dudes maybe we should relax and let off a bit. Its a mix. u know? we are trying to innovate as well. Be different in our own place. But if we continue to cause tensions such as this bs.. we will not be able to reach any sort of goal. i ask that people forgive and forget. This is all a big mistake. and full of misunderstandings on everybodies party. I personally love Bhangra music for what it is. and i hope this can all be sorted out. WE are trying to set our own mark and bet competitive so please dont hate. Relax. WE all r on here for a purpose that is the love of bhangra.

there really is no reason to be "fired up". You should just humbly take the criticism and move on. Especially being a new team you shouldn't really let these things bug you. As you gain more experience in the bhangra world, you too, will understand the value of hardwork that teams put into their routines, whatever aspect it may be. No worries, all we ask is that permission be asked if you want to use a part of another team's mix. Thats all.

Meistro i agree with u. yea if we knew the routine was somebody elses? WE would have asked permission. But what do u do when somebody plays u for a fool? but yea i agree this is def a learning experience for all of us not to trust anybody. Appologies yaaro.

This was not directed at your team, Sher5abi. I believe Saleem was referring to the Air Bhangra logo created by Cornell Bhangra, which was copied by others.

Salaam Mariam,

I appreciate you trying to stick up for our team. It is important to know that as mentioned before, team members were not actively involved in putting the mix together. We just chose the songs by name not knowing how they were going to be mixed in together.

Our team is a rec team with a only a couple of teenagers, the rest are adults. We've got limited resources as we are in a location with a miniscule South Asian population.

As mentioned by other team members, we honestly were unaware of any portions of our mix being taken from other team(s). If we were to hypothetically take another team's mix we would surely ask for permisson. However as a team seeking a competitive advantage we choose not to do so.

This was our frst performance and it was incredibly difficult. Many of our members have 0 months-12 months of experience so it has been quite the challenge. So to find out that our mix is not original is a bummer after all of the work we have put in to our team. At BTF we seek constructive criticism and the support of our peers. We apologize if you have felt that our team has done anything out of ill will. It is definitely not our aim.
