For those of you who dont need to do serious editing, Paint.NET is a nice in between between MS Paint and Photoshop

For those of you who just cant figure out how to pirate (or buy) PS, just get GIMP, it's a free, Photoshop-ish image editor program http://www.gimp.org/
Oh and if you are still set on learning Photoshop, which is an awesome program which I have legally purchased, there are a number of tutorial resources on the internet:
