I received a suggestion on how to handle Song Request threads and wanted to hear your thoughts on it. Currently, members post a new thread that's titled anything from "Song Help!!!" (bad) to "Identify Song from JJ @ Elite 8" (good, precise). Generally, they get an answer and the song!

However, there are a number of these threads. It was suggested to make one master thread all about Song Requests. If users have a new question, they can post in that thread with a new song question. This keeps all questions and answers in one thread.

The obvious advantage is that it reduces all the threads to one place to ask and answer. The disadvantage is you can't link answers back to individual question posts, and all the answers may get jumbled.

Please answer above and post your thoughts on other advantages/disadvantages!

the best thing would be to update the media center search tool to a google widget; a lot of the time people are looking for songs that have already been posted, whose names they sometimes even know. with a better search tool, people can find the things they need themselves faster.

another thing you could do is implement, perhaps, a tool similar to the one in place on the StackExchange sites. i'm not sure if any of you have used them, but they're like quora; sites entirely dedicated to the answering of user-posted questions. to prevent people from asking duplicate questions, while someone is typing out the title and body of their message/topic, the site searches itself for threads that have similar content. it then displays these threads. this feature would be really helpful in cutting down on reposts, as well as allowing people to find the "parent" threads for their song requests. a lot of the time, people will only really want one or two songs in a mix, and the original mixer or someone else usually addresses this request on the parent thread of that mix. for example, take that recent BCC Nachda Punjab song help thread. in either the thread where the video was posted by Harjot, or the thread of the mix (if it was posted), someone is bound to have brought up vailpuna, the song that the recent poster wanted. that song gets asked for a lot. if the poster was able to clearly see (without hassling around with the search system) threads that contained similar to his own, he wouldn't have needed to even post it. helping people help themselves, i think, would be the best way to go about this.

Hollaaaaaaaa!!! ;)

Obviously, one master thread.

Added idea: Maybe have 1 or 2 "Music Ambassadors" who can monitor the thread. These people can nominate themselves or be chosen by the mods?

I think a combination of Mithu and Voxanimus's ideas would be best. Avoids clutter, and stops multiple posts about the same song.

this would only work if posters posted the songs w/ the name in the title. Like some tracks are just posted as Track 1, track 2, specially older songs. But its a good idea.
