and i'm with eveyrone on the beef thing. cyber beef is no fun, just handle it in person... nicely :)
one of the best lines ive heard about internet fighting comes to mind

<b>"fighting on the internet is like running in the special olympics, even if you win, your still retarded"</b>

<b>Those who will take offense to the word RETARDED:</b> I'm not putting down those who are in special need due to physical reasons, but im putting those down who are in need of common sense help, about fighting over the internet.

Just out of curiosity, how many "strikes" do I have? Every time you get banned, do you get another 3 strikes? Just wondering, so I know who to pick and choose my strikes on... I don't want to be wasting them or anything... haha...
"pick and choose", you make it sound like ure gonna do surgical strikes on people on btf, like bill clinton did in his era. hahaha

I motion for no more posts with "+1" or "+arbitrarynumber"

If you have something constructive to add as well it is fine but its kinda unnecessary to bump topics with it.

But seriously, I agree.

And Envy, I don't know if you realized that you used the wrong 'your'...which doesn't bode well when you're calling people out

My spelling, seriously? YOU'RE trying to get me to attack back on btf so you can shove the words i quoted back in my face, nice try.

Edit: And calling people out isn't what i'm doing, im simply stating this internet beef IS NOT worth wasting time. So chill, and if anything, lets grab a pegg, we can discuss this in person if you really want to continue...

I hear you on 25, but I am giving myself some buffer in case someone spams useless posts and then posts crap after 25 posts. I dont think 25 vs 40 will affect any normal user, though.

How about making it that you need atleast 10 posts to start a topic?...It could potentially make it hard for people to just make new accounts and post a fake topic...could be more then 10 posts...but people might also spam the boards to get 10 or w/e posts you need for being able to make topics...also competition organizers won't be able to make topics..they can pm you for it or something like that. Both ups n downs i guess
Is giving benefits for post count really a good idea? I mean, I don't want to see people create posts like "+1" that truly add no value to a thread JUST so they can start making threads.

And I would hate to have someone on a crazy India team come on this forum, wanting to post the link to their performance or start a thread about something, and not be able to properly spread their knowledge because they don't have 10 posts. Noobs will always be noobs. And we see people with more than 10 posts start random threads all the time. I really dont feel we can "train" people.

+1 is just another form of "I agree." or "Righteous so!". It will still probably be present in some form even if "+1" or "+huge number" is looked down on.

Here's my two cents: As boards grow in size and posts, so will the number of trolls and anonymous haters. I don't think we should limit free speech (ie: Fuck Traditional. Fuck Modern. I like Turtles) nor should we treat our new members like babies. It's becoming very obvious that (1) Saleem can track your IP down to identify your location/identity and (2) the nature of our board/community requires a lot of in-person interaction at competitions. You may eventually meet the people you may talk down. And finally, it's become very evident that we as a general community don't promote hate. (3) If a haterade thread goes up, we have always looked down on it. We don't add fuel to the fire. All three of these are deterrents and, in my opinion, our best defense.

I sort of agree here...things like "+1" and how people critique routines shouldn't be moderated...that's going a little too far. We can't force people to use a format of critiquing because we want them to do it in an organized way...

If you don't like "+1" you just have to get over it...the focus of these changes are more on trash talking and useless bashing threads.

Also...Kinnell is right we shouldn't treat our new members like babies...but maybe we can start pointing out this trash talk faster? IE The Whoose NYPD and this Happy Gabroo Team thread were clearly useless...can't we stop those threads from going in the beginning?

There were 1-2 other trash talking threads at the same time, i moved those to Trash. I only left the "Whoose [sic] NYPD?" thread b/c the troll got owned so badly lol

log the IP's of people who create usernames to just flame/incite and start doing perma-bans/blocks.
Users that start threads to flame/incite should be given a warning. If done again, the account should be suspended for 2 weeks. If they open another username in that timeframe, perma block the ip. If I think of more, I'll let you know.

Also, don't have a post count necessary to post in certain sections. I do not think this board is that big or has that high of level of spamming/trolling.
I love the +1 though.

Keeping the post going in a more constructive manner ....

I havn't been dancing bhangra long, or been in the community long. I helped found a team in south florida at the university of south florida. Unofficially known as bull bhangra, were still getting on our feet, and look forward to our first real bhangra competition in a few weeks, although it will be a small one. I personally have learned a lot from just knowing how to freestyle, to learning to choreo, and now picking up a folk style (which i truly admire). Hopefully my team can get some support from the bhangra community since there isnt much bhangra culture down here.

and i also hope i can be a positive and constructive member to btf.

A great start, guys! It's good to know that you're following Saleem's advice and feel welcome enough to open up. The problem is that this isn't the thread to do it.

Hit up the "Introduce yourself" thread. :)

I didn't know much either, but just remember....as much info as there is on this forum (and there's a lot), its strength is in connecting you to other people who love Bhangra. Don't be afraid to friend/follow/whatever in order to make a BTF connection one step closer to a real one.
