Wow, this totally digusts me. :'(
I am a Muslim and proud Pakistani, but what the Taliban has done to our peaceful country has been a great misfortune, especially in the northern territories (the Swat District) where they reside/have control over because those are said to be heaven-like places (beautiful valleys with small rivers flowing surrounded by plateaus).
A lot of what the Taliban claims to do is in the "name of Islam", but in my humble opinionm, they are just using that as an excuse to justify their actions. This incident being a prime example.
The article states:
Minallah and other sources said the girl was punished on suspicion of having had an illicit relationship with a married man. She did not receive a trial. "The whole case is based on the suspicions of one neighbour," said Minallah.
The Quran states:
O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting) . And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful. [Quran, 49:11-12]
The Prophet of Islam reaffirms this:
"Avoid suspicion, for airing suspicion is the most lying form of speech" (reported by al-Bukhari and others).
Despite what you may be brainfed by watching the media, women hold a lot of respect in Islam and in the country of Pakistan (our own prime minister was a female before the military dictatorship took to power). Hopefully, my post lessens some negative conotations on the religion and the country that could be provoked by just someone watching this video and commenting.
