Pug Tying

Well when you first get the pugga, I would suggest to wash them and let the air dry. Then with Sta Flo, it depends on the material of the pugga. Some are thicker and some aren't, but basically you usually have to do one full coat of starch and see how it turns out. If it isn't hard enough then go ahead with another, but usually when you do two coats it becomes really hard.

Hit: Once you get the right amount on, and you use it once for a performance. Then you should be good for a while, basically all you have to do is, next time you want to use it, dont use starch again. Just rinse the pug with a little cold water, and then let it dry again, usually there is enough starch in the pug to reform and make it just as hard, then after this time you might need to starch again.

It comes down to experience with what material you have and how much starch you need, trial and error is what worked for me

O yea, about tying, I don't think I try to think about how hard tie them, but usually the 1st laar is the the tightest, but all of them are usually tight for me.

When tying a bhangra pug, it all depends on how you build up the pug. If you build it up correctly, then tucking the turla in is no problem. To me it doesn't depend on how hard you tie it, but more of building the laars on top of each other.

thanks for the words of wisdom havish. I never really considered how building up the laarhs of the pugh plays a role in being able to tuck the turla in easily. Cool hopefully with some practice I can get this down. If anyone has any other tips, please feel free to share ;D

I have to agree with havish that its more about building the pagg right rather then worrying on how tight the larrs should be. I can tie the pagg well and stuff in the turla without a problem but when it comes to tucking in the sides of the turla that is where i have a problem. I can tuck them in but i can never ever get it to look good at all.....any advice? and havish could u post a video when you get a chance

huge question on the TURLA

are you pug's thurla naturally cut like that where you just starch it and stick it in. or do you actually do it like the video?
also do you tie a rubber band or string at the bottom of the starched turla to keep it together?

for my team and the majority of teams ( i actually don't know any who cuts their paghs) do it as the video does. The rounded shape made from a straight end.

I know some teams that use a string to pull the turla into the pagh. Basically after the 2-3 larh, the place a string and make a loop; then when the pagh is tied they put the folded turla into the loop and pull the ends of the rope, bringin the turla into the pagh. Not sure if this is what ur talking about.

NO NEVER CUT UR PAGGS! especially if u already did the pony(folding)........ a bhangra pagg should be 5 meters long. And yes do it as the video does. No cutting is neccessary at all

I meant no disrespect with cutting the pugg, I actually know a team that has their pugs made like that(so the person on the team claims) , thats why i was asking if every team did it

yeah def no cut, when you tuck in the sides, it makes that round shape naturally...if you cut it, it would just be flat and look mad weird

Even though I might not tie the pagg perfectly, I wouldn't cut anything. Someone else who tied the paggan for the team cut a piece off because it didn't look right, and that really messed up the shape and everything. I had to go ahead and fix them and now I only tie them. Cutting is a huge mistake.

I tried tying a rubber band at the end to hold the turla together, it held up nicely. But i was just experimenting, my next go ahead will be with the Sta-Flo and try Havish's method.

And thanks for the hint man about the cold water...i remember hearing that somewhere, but i totally forgot about it. I used to just restarch everything again with the maava. It was a PAIN! i can't wait to try this again.

U should never cut the end of a pugg, the straight edge allows a nearly perfect circle u just hav to get use to playing around with the turla

and for those who are having trouble getting the turla in,, use ur free hand to really get in there and make space, dont be afraid to do this, alot of people think if i put my hand in there i mite ruin wut i already hav, dont be afraid beacuse if the puggg is tite enuff nothing will happen to the larhs, or if u mees up the larhs they can be fixed, dont be afraid to afraid to use force and make room i hate to braagg but since i made this transition, i tie nearly perfect puggs
