Question for Dancers

In general for a local gig, how much do some of the teams out there charge? Lets say for a freestyle bhangra on dhol at a bharat or a 8 min routine at a reception.

It used to be around $500 (give or take a $100) in New York when I was going to college at Geneseo.

And if you're lucky, some drunk uncle would come up to you and tell you about how the bhangra performance reminded him of his homeland and then he would give you some extra ca$h.

we go from about 500-maybe 800. Honestly, it's how you work the business of it. I've done quite a number of gigs as a dholi, so now i've gotten used to booking gigs. Before you enter into pricing, set the high price, and already set your minimum. So start high, and keep going down...eventually you'll hit your minimum.

That's how i've worked it out. Also, make sure the event is contracted.

The reason why I'm asking this question because over the part 4 years I been in the entertainment business, seems like teams want more and more money, especially in L A. For example, I am not going to mention any team names but I recently called a team and needed 6 coed dancers for a bhangra routine for a party and they quoted me $800. I understand if the team is well known and won a few comps but isent $800 a bit too much to charge for a un-credited team? What you guys think?

50$-100$ a dancer at most...but if the family's loaded...150$ a dancer...lol. But thats a good and resonable charge...=]

yea its about 50-100 per dancer up in nor-cal

In NYC we would charge anywhere from $100-$150 per dancer for an 8 minute routine plus usually sticking around and dancing a bit once the party starts, but it's different in NYC for a couple of reasons. First of all, the organizers in the city tend to have a larger budget. Also, we often heard from organizers that other performers were not very reliable, so they were willing to pay a little extra for a group they could depend on and would not back out last minute or show up very late.
