Question to Graphic Designers

Hey guys!

I normally make logos and designs inside Photoshop which includes Bhangra vectors and just simple logo designs but I heard that illustrator is much better for creating logos because its not pixel based. Since illustrator is much more complicated to use, cant you just upload the Photoshop done logo inside illustrator and just "image trace" it?

Any help will be appreciated !

There is a slight learning curve to Illustrator, but if you're serious about design, I highly recommend you pursue that path. Once you become proficient in Illustrator, you'll understand why it is superior to Photoshop for vector images and therefore, for logos, icons..etc. That being said, it's better if you're planning on creating your own elements as opposed to using pre-made assets, brushes, patterns, gradients, effects..etc.

You can still import an image and attempt to "image trace" it. But "image traces" tend to be less than ideal, with unnecessary, additional anchor points that bloat and may reduce the quality of the design. For example, I attached two designs to explain this point. The former could be something that the software tried to image trace while the latter is something created from scratch in Illustrator.

Obviously, this may not always be the case, but Illustrator is powerful and very useful once you become proficient. You'll be able to take your designs to the next level because you have full creative control as well.

You can use image trace, but like Sue Sylvester said, it is kind of overkill & not always accurate (depends on the image you're tracing).

I just recently started learning Illustrator at work, and I think it's much easier to draw in Illustrator than it is in Photoshop. I also think the main reason why most people probably don't learn Illustrator is because they don't know how to properly use the pen & pencil tools.

I would recommend learning the basics here:

then watching tutorials like this one:
