Earlier this week, I purchased a new forum software that we intend to bring to BTF. It's better, nicer looking, and has much smoother integration of the conversation between the site and FB/twitter. I launched it yesterday as RaasTeamsForum.com.
Why launch RTF?
The garba raas community needs a better site that has great functionality, community support, and moderation. Those are the three things that made BTF successful. And the site the community used, DesiDanceTeams.com, has been languishing and receives very little actual discussion post-competition. Also, DesiDanceTeams has been down for 4 weeks straight now, which is ridiculous. They're bringing back their forum tonight but I still think their community deserves better stability. I'll use my experience creating a useful and stable BTF with the new platform on RTF. I'll also point out that since launching April 8, 2008, BTF has had about 99.95% uptime
What is it and how does this help BTF?
We've been thinking about implementing a brand new forum platform for BTF. One that looks better, is better integrated into lives on FB and twitter, and is more robust and quick in its improvements than the current platform. I've purchased this platform and installed it for RTF. This will let us test and improve on a smaller scale, and once we and users are happy, we can migrate BTF to the same platform (but still as a separate site and community at bhangrateamsforum.com)
What do we need before BTF gets this awesome forum software?
We need to implement some critical features that BTF users appreciate and have come to expect, like the Media Center and Competition and Team Listing. We also need to explore what add-ons for the RTF software are useful and install those.
What's next?
If you have friends in the Raas community, please let them know! I'll be working with all the BTF tech volunteers to figure out what we need to add to make the software BTF-ready. As I said before, this does not mean BTF and RTF are merging. They are two separate communities who will have separate domains and forums.
