i don't know much about this topic -- only thing I can say is

SGPD regardless of their beastly-ness, are human -- in complete honesty -- id much rather them do the same routine twice and execute it with the swagger that they always have and the straight up nastiness that occurs on that step when they set foot on it, rather than them change it in the attempt to "raise the bar" -- as they say on Wall Street, the bigger you are the more you have to watch yourself

You mean nobody would have an issue with reusing the set if they didn't know you were reusing it in the first place?
Insightful.

I've seen it numerous times where a team doesnt want their set posted because they are using the same set at different comps...I dunno just a thought

Lately, ive been more of a reader then a poster but i just felt the need to comment on this thread. To be honest, is this really that big of a deal. I mean i have favorite books i reread all the time, or favorite shows/movies i rewatch all the time.

I mean sometimes there even BETTER the second or third time around. Why is it any different for a bhangra routine, like im pretty sure if Nachdi came out and did there elite 8 set again at a comp there would be alot of people who watch bhangra would find it just as sick and fun as the first time around.

I understand the wow factors and gimmicks wouldnt be the same but don't you think they'd be able to hit harder the second around? Also with SPGD sure you can come up with a set in 2 months no problem, but can you come up with a better set in those two months then the one they currently had? All i hear is SPGD sets the bare, sgpd does this, they come out with this, we expect this. Don't you think they realize that as well? So why would they settle to rush a medicore set that isnt even close to what there capable of and then sit there and listen to people on btf tell them that they didnt bring it, or they expected more... come on now be logical if you expect the best you have to allow time for the best.

+1. And these same people said "why are you criticizing a team that wins!??! They won’t change because of what you post." Yet here they are offering critiques of the most successful bhangra teams in terms of wins.

I don't think Re-using the same set is a problem. Frankly this is the first time that i think SGPD has reused a set. VCU couple years ago used the same set everywhere and won practically everything. You have to look at the set as a whole for that competition. Like it was said before , people sitting in that audience weren't BTF heads, or bhangra fanatics. They were your general audience looking to have a good time and in that case i think SGPD did a great job and brought a set that they believed would make them win. From a BTF perspective i did prefer the ABC set because it was fresh and something very different from ABC. their dance was creative energetic, you saw the smiles, the style was revamped. IT was just a fun set to watch overall. It was very close between SGPD and ABC and at the end of the day respect to all 3 teams that came to a Tier 1 comp and for putting on a great show. 8)

my opinion...forget 2 months, i think one solid month is more then enough time to make a set, learn it, and perfect it

No, you have it wrong, we follow the school year.
I wasn't commenting on the fact that SGPD reused their routine, I was commenting that Jagga said the most obvious thing you could possibly say, as if it was an argument.
Also who the fuck makes fake accounts anymore? Wuss.

1. seriously chill. my first account stopped working so i made a new one, this isn't a fake one.
2. i was making the point college teams have routines for the year so it shouldn't be a problem if teams re use sets in a season.

So you’re complaining about how teams are not stepping it up as you would like them to? Every team can use the same set as many times as they want. There is no rule that says otherwise. It was a wise move on SGPDs part. You work your ass on something, might as well use it to your benefit.

Next people are going to want to see the team bring in new vardiya to each competition…

Its simple as this…do what you gotta do as a team.

its kind of annoying how some people just love to find ways to hate on teams.. but when it comes down to one of their own performances they demand respect from everyone else.

SGPD has created a new month within a 2 month period in the past. They couldve done it again. Also, they're reigning champs. Therefore, I felt they shouldve brought something new because of that. Alot of the set was from BAB I don't get where 50-60% of the set was new. Yeah, they had some new bits but it wasn't 50-60% new.
yes SGPD has created a new set within 2 months in the past, so has NJ, and other teams have done it too... But just because they've done it before, it doesn't mean that they are obligated to do it again and again to please the youtube junkies (I'm one of them BTW). If it ain't broke don't fix it.
I agree that they really set the bar high and always brought something fresh, but why should they have to live up to those standards just to please us? They are judged comparatively to the current standards of other teams in the competition (standards as in current sets, not compared to the sets they have done in the past).
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they competing against OTHER teams and not amongst themselves?
A folk team from Toronto (which shall not be named but you might figure it out anyways) kept their entire set almost the same for like 2 years, and it was never made into an issue.. you can figure it out amongst yourselves why that was the case but I for one don't care... I enjoyed each one of their performances.
Even if SGPD had brought the exact same set from BAB and done it at this competition I would've had no problem, and even then they changed more than half of it so we really should appreciate what they gave us.

I'm not sure how we got so off the OP's points, but if you go back and read the thread, the whole "SGPD should have brought a new set" was a JOKE from sgrewal who was excited to see a new routine and was sarcastically commenting on how she was disappointed. Then after one person took it literally, the discussion was merely about if it was possible to do a new routine in two months.

The past two pages have been everyone calling out people for calling out SGPD for not bringing a new set. But it doesn't seem like people are actually claiming that SGPD should have brought a new ono, merely that they could have and that SGPD has done so in the past. There's a semantic difference between 'should have' and 'could have' and it means that there's been 2 pages of absolutely worthless comments cause no one is on opposite sides of the argument, EVERYONE IS AGREEING.

I thought the OP's arguments that the dances were all very similar and safe and that the bhangra scene isn't evolving were interesting. Since we're all basically in agreement on SGPD's right to do whatever the hell they want, maybe we can steer discussion?

Are teams styles are being standardized, resulting in more and more similar looking teams without any real innovation? It's early in the season, but it's a fair point I think

Who the hell cares? Teams reuse sets all the time, and SGPD rarely ever does. Ik vaar same set la lya, saare pichhe pagey?

PAU did the same set for like 10 years and that shit is still more enjoyable to watch than 95% of the "new" stuff out of NA.

this is very true about PAU...gurinder paaji just told me yesterday that this vid from the 1980's (his bhangra guru, master janak raj, is the dholi) is very similar to the set that master janak raj taught him 15-20 years later in the late 1990's:
