When are y'all gonna realize that going to a comp with Gary Kehra's name attached is gonna lead to issues? Same shit goes down at MCB every year, I don't know why anyone expected anything different with him as a judge lol

This was the first official "BTF approved" judging competition and was a complete debacle. All three judges were on a different page during the judges meeting. Every team here can agree that these three judges are not qualified to judge Bhangra competitions. Whether a judge has danced in the Bhangra circuit for 10 years or 5, it comes down to your knowledge, ability to be unbias when you make decisions, as well as your communication skills. If you are a Bhangra committee looking to throw a competition, you should NOT choose from three of these judges. I can further go into detail about each judges credentials if they would like me to. This message should get across to the whole Bhangra community. Together, we can make them never be allowed to judge a competition again.

To my understanding, this is the beauty of UBJ and competitions being UBJ certified. Teams have an opportunity to rate judges and have those ratings stored and displayed on a judge profile. Having a judging database gives competitions and teams a way to see a judges history.

So for this comp- the judging may have sucked. with it being UBJ certified, we know that teams will have the opportunity to give feedback on the judging (as a whole and on individual judges) for future reference.

So you're telling me the point of UBJ is to rate judges? Wow, I guess everyone on BTF here is too stupid to do that on their own.
If rating judges was the point don't you think BTF would be the perfect place to do it instead of a third party (As admins/mods and UBJ have stated, UBJ and BTF have absolutely nothing to do with each other, except they are basically ran by the same people).

Simple fix: for people that have issues w/ judge start a thread in main discussion. Post Judge's name, compt and what the issue is. Instead of have this sad excuse of UBJ and these threads every 2-7 weeks.
Go read my post about UBJ on the UBJ thread. Don't rely on UBJ because it's basically a cry for attention.

no- the point of UBJ isnt to rate judges. the point is to give teams feedback forms to submit on their judging experience and have teams give judges ratings. UBJ offers feedback forms, compiles the data, and makes it available. UBJ doesnt do the ratings.

edit: to me feedback from teams that were actually judged by an individual is more important than the angry BTF mob

If the losing teams are having such a hard time accepting the results then they should post their videos and let people decide for themselves. Who cares if you didn't take home the trophy, there will be more opportunities with different judges. Blaming it all on the "UBJ" and their inability to choose winners according to what you want is childish. Judging debacles have been happening for the decade that i have followed the circuit, and i don't think they can be avoided. Judges have different ideas of what a good set is and their scoring is evidence of that. Starting a thread and demanding a correction be made is everything that is wrong with the circuit today. Take your hurt feelings home and pour them in to your next set. Come correct or don't come at all. That means do your homework and figure out the type of people you have to impress. If you happen to lose again then shut up and go back to the drawing board. The only outcome of this thread is that the entire circuit is going in the wrong direction, not just the judging.

This can easily be done BTF, where it's available to everyone. Have a sub-forum for judges feedback: create thread day after compt is done (either by team captain, organization, or the judges themselves). Keep it open for 2 weeks for captains and dancers to give feedback. After 2 weeks thread gets locked. Just have a mods be extremely strict on those threads.

There is really no incentive to post on BTF, or even make it known. BTF has been around for what, 6-7 years now, and this has never come close to happening and been productive. It's also hilarious because although there are judging issues now, they pale in comparison to the judging issues that have been around in the circuit.

This seems like a solid idea. Food for thought, when teams/captains post, there should be something acknowledging where they ranked amongst all teams.
Listening to the first place team talk about how great the judges were or the last place team complain about how useless the judges were comes with a heavy bias, which can't be eliminated entirely, but at least it can be taken into consideration.

this has more or less been the method of handling judging review to this point. we start a thread about a competition and people post their reviews. what could be done differentlywith this approach to make it more effective?

No matter what you do, the judges will never be great at any
Bhangra competition and you cannot blame them either, its the organizers that choose the judges. Nobody is a certified Judge here.
1.Lol in the Bhangra world, Garry would be Donald trump, so many controversies with this guy.
2. judging in Bhangra has been flawed since 2000, but nothing has changed. mediocre dancer are judges now, Desi uncles judging competition never works out either, especially if they have not danced in the 2004+. All they can really judge you on is your Bhangra, Execution, Smile, Nakhra, energy, etc Which is their best asset. but how many teams really focus on those important factors today? we got Bhangra robots, not Bhangra dancers.
On the other hand, we got judges, who just look at your entertainment factor, gimmicks, and creativity, and have developed as dancers who have just focused on these three things, and have a flawed paradigm of what Bhangra actually IS!!
Then you have the "EGO JUDGE", who claims to have been in the circuit for 1000 years, and "watched" others but have no legit practical experience with making sets, putting in hours of work, did not compete against or worked with any amazing teams, and cannot maintain a smile after 2 minutes of dancing. NOTE; TALKING ABOUT OVERALL JUDGING, NOT THIS COMPETITON ONLY.
The competing aspect of Bhangra is ridiculous now, and the audience judging should never be considered, unless you have the entire Bhangra circuit watching there.
I remember getting 3rd place at one competition in 2008 just because the judge had beef with my coach, he handed his judging sheets with a big ZERO on it, And we still got 3rd, I was 14 at the time, my teammates were also ages 14-20, and yet we are here thinking we had the worst performance and everything was a waste of time, not realizing what the judge had done.
I remember the first time getting 3rd or not placing at all, its not a good feeling , especially when you are not at home, and need to fly home, it feels like everything was a waste, all the hours you've spend on practices, travelling expenses, time, focus, energy, etc. BUT WHEN YOU LOVE BHANGRA SO MUCH, YOU LET GO OF THE NEGATIVITY, BECUASE BHANGRA WAS NOT CREATED FOR COMPETING,
GO TO A MELA IN INDIA, AND TELL ME IF YOU SEE STAGE MARKERS, OR GIMMICKS, EVEN THE UNEXPERIENCED DANCERS LOOK JOYFUL.
The competition aspect has totally ruined the art of Bhangra and expression of Bhangra on stage.
If you go into the competition with the wrong mindset, then you will experience this BTF drama again and again and again, LET YOUR PERFORMANCE SPEAK FOR ITSELF,
PEOPLE ARE CONTINUALLY IN A CONSCIOUSNESS INFLUX THEREFOR JUDGING IS VERY BIASED. A JUDGE GETS ONE CHANCE TO SEE YOU PERFORM, and BELIEVE ME THEY DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOUR FORMATIONS OR GIMMICKS, HOURS SPEND PRACTICING, EFFORTS, BLA BLA , THEY CARE ABOUT WHAT TEAM SHOWED UP ON THAT DAY, EXECUTED THEIR CREATIVITY WELL, AND PUT ON THE BEST MELA...

I've watched all the placing teams once, and based on your PERFORMANCE ,
1. abc/sfbc
2. abc/sfbc
3.vancity/shan-e
Note: I will watch the other teams too, so placings might change!! but videos do not do any justice to the teams either..

VANCITY BHANGRA
: jhoomer mela was nice, too much of a break,
shikka segment was showcased with high energy and josh,
be aware of surrounding when transitions between formations without making it so obvious
khunde choreo was nice BUT execution was not the best some parts sloppiness at some parts, Khunde were not straight and aligned either
jhoomer starting was nice, good nakhre/ smiles.
6:09 gimmick didn't hit as hard, and you could have done something else than picking up the guy
Oerall Great energy, looked like y'all were having fun on stage through out. could have easily got third or second if flawless.
you energies work very well dancing as a unit. dancers have improved a lot as well.

SHANEPUNJAB ARTS CLUB: Intro was strong, stunts and double standing,
Shikkhe was not bad, didn't hit as hard as the other teams though,
1:35 your jandu sigha on shikke is very sloppy, at least do the traditional basic foundation moves with the right execution, If you consider yourself a Folk team. Complete every move at 101%
Khunde was better but some dancer were off a the jumps,
Overall transition between segments was good, but some parts were too fast, and did not have the same grace that Shanepunjab usually shows. I felt the energy dropped throughout the dancers and each segment you could tell dancers were getting tired, which increased the sloppiness with yours actions, hands, shoulders, legs, etc. you were forcing yourself to hit positions a lot..
Shan-E has put on better performances, but this one very rushed and sloppy
Choreo was good, energy at the beginning and end was the best, But the in between it was something else. If you executed choreo better, it might have been first place or second place.
SURRERY FOLK BHANGRA CLUB:
Not just this team but every team overload with the effects in their mixes and never match the energy you display on stage. if your mix is hyped, then match that energy of the mix, the buildups don't match dancing energy either
shikke seemed off beat at the beginning.
Good execution throughout the segments, Khunde was good
a lot of noise made on stage, Hois/ bharkaan, w.e,
good energy throughout, choreo was not as complex as shan-e or vancity but the Bhangra showcased was at least well executed, the dancers were good dancers

ABC Bhangra: I know you were all upset, with the placings at first but your dancer clearly said, "its not about placings, its about the relationship, love, and culture. "
Opening was good, a lot of confidence and genuine smiles. Shikke was strong and fun gimmick
mix has too much rap imo, but whatever,
everyone was on beat, but low energy
Khunde were clean, creative, and mela was nice, My fav Kato segment compared to all teams
and clearly your treated you Katos(squirrels) with grace. Gimicks were well executed compared to other teams
too much of a big break in middle before jhoomer though
20/20 or Phumniyan were variation was nice, good creativity,
everyone looked like they had fun on stage, and happy and not forced when dancing
overall it was good job by everybody not just a few strong dancer
