Hello BTF,

As many may know, there was a great amount of concern and many issues that were brought up after the competition on January 28th. After a great amount of research and looking into the issue and discussing with many senior organizers in the circuit along with the competing teams, the only feasible solution was a rejudgement and so we proceeded with one.

We very carefully selected a new panel of 3 judges who have been involved in the circuit for many many years and have the expertise to judge a competition. The judges were the following:

-Jasmine Singh who danced for Michigan Bhangra Team, Lethal Bhangra Crew, and West Side Alliance

- Ramjotvir Singh who danced for Heeray Punjab Deh, Virse De Waris, and Ankhiley Gabroo (SJSU)

- Chethana Damodara who danced for Cal Bhangra, West Side Alliance, Bay Area Royal Bhangra, Allarh Mutiyaaran Punjab Diyan, Shan Punjab Di (Bay Area Live Team)

These judges were debriefed on the situation and a process was put into play to make sure that rejudgement based on videos was as fair as possible. The setting of reviewing the videos was as if it was a live competition to prevent any in depth analysis of the videos as that would not be possible if this was a live setting or fair in any way.

After the review of the videos and putting all scores together and after a deliberation on the top teams, Reign of Bhangra 2017 committee would like to congratulate the following teams on their placings:

3rd Place: Shan-E-Punjab, Surrey, BC
2nd Place: Surrey Folk Bhangra Club, Surrey, BC
1st Place: Apna Bhangra Crew, Seattle, WA

Thank you to all the teams for patiently waiting while we figured out the fairest possible way to reach a verdict. Also thank you to all the individuals who helped us reach this solution. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us at apventertainment@gmail.com and we will be more then happy to provide answers.

Thank you,

APV Entertainment Committee

Hello,

Judges information has been added to the original post for your reference.

The trophies will be retrieved from the teams and handed over the respective re placed teams. Prize money was never given to teams and now will be rewarded to the placings teams.

Thank you,

APV Entertainment Committee

Honestly this is kind of ridiculous. If the results of a competition don't seem correct, then pick different judges for next year but the concept of judging a competition based on videos is pretty absurd. If you weren't there live, you can't properly judge the competition. Obviously I have no personal stake in this but I really hope other competitions don't use this as a precedent. There will always be people upset about placings; that doesn't mean it is right to go back and strip a team of a placing after the fact.

Nonetheless, congrats to the competing/placing teams. I'm sure people put on a good show, just don't think this was the right way for the committee to go about addressing complaints

^^

Absolute and utter garbage management.
Those trophies are worth the credibility of this competition.
Can't even understand how you managed to convince these new judges to rejudge this competition. Smh @ them too.

Who on the committee made these executive decisions? Would never participate in any comp that has their name attached to it.

What happened at this stupid competition is this-:
1. A team who places at every comp they go to didnt place at all bcoz it was just not their night and as usual thought they should have placed.
2. Drama between the 2 academies of B.C. one academy saying shit to each and every team telling them how they should have placed bcoz the other academy placed over them. Telling everyone how they are OK with being 2nd bcoz they could care less who placed first as long as its not the other academy.
3. A team who came to perform after so many years in front of their home crowd and did not have a set that deserved first place but cried later on bcoz it was their final perfomrance they think they deserved first.
4. An organizer who didnt had the guts the stand behind the judges he picked himself instead let other teams disrespect them even on stage just bcoz he was friends with them and trust me regardless of this new panel ABC was destined to be 1st bcoz of this relationship.
Changing the placings is the worst idea anyone could come up with just bcoz teams crying how they "worked so hard". Crap. Every team thay steps on that stage works just as hard if not more. I am surprised to see a team who placed 1st originally is not even in top 3 anymore. Just sad to see that crying wins trophies these days than actual performance.

I was part of the audience that night and was not happy with the way we were told one thing that night and now its totally different.

Best of luck for future.
