Hello BTF,
As many may know, there was a great amount of concern and many issues that were brought up after the competition on January 28th. After a great amount of research and looking into the issue and discussing with many senior organizers in the circuit along with the competing teams, the only feasible solution was a rejudgement and so we proceeded with one.
We very carefully selected a new panel of 3 judges who have been involved in the circuit for many many years and have the expertise to judge a competition. The judges were the following:
-Jasmine Singh who danced for Michigan Bhangra Team, Lethal Bhangra Crew, and West Side Alliance
- Ramjotvir Singh who danced for Heeray Punjab Deh, Virse De Waris, and Ankhiley Gabroo (SJSU)
- Chethana Damodara who danced for Cal Bhangra, West Side Alliance, Bay Area Royal Bhangra, Allarh Mutiyaaran Punjab Diyan, Shan Punjab Di (Bay Area Live Team)
These judges were debriefed on the situation and a process was put into play to make sure that rejudgement based on videos was as fair as possible. The setting of reviewing the videos was as if it was a live competition to prevent any in depth analysis of the videos as that would not be possible if this was a live setting or fair in any way.
After the review of the videos and putting all scores together and after a deliberation on the top teams, Reign of Bhangra 2017 committee would like to congratulate the following teams on their placings:
3rd Place: Shan-E-Punjab, Surrey, BC
2nd Place: Surrey Folk Bhangra Club, Surrey, BC
1st Place: Apna Bhangra Crew, Seattle, WA
Thank you to all the teams for patiently waiting while we figured out the fairest possible way to reach a verdict. Also thank you to all the individuals who helped us reach this solution. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us at apventertainment@gmail.com and we will be more then happy to provide answers.
Thank you,
APV Entertainment Committee
