Dear friends,
As you all know, I have been involved in the Bhangra scene for a very long time. As a performer, as an organizer, as a judge and also as the owner of a dance school that has teams that compete.
Over the years, I have seen many competitions and judging styles - some are very fair and others are blatantly not.
The problems caused with unfair judging styles and unaccountability are very serious. Not only are you ruining the spirit of the competing teams, but you are teaching the youth that corruption wins and that is the system. This is one of the reasons that our youth grow up not understanding hard work and ethics. We are teaching them that to win, you have to cheat.
Because of the severity of the situation, I can't stay quiet. I will be uploading a video blog about the competitions, organizers and judges how they act before competition and react after competition. There are always 2 sides to a story, and I think it's important for this to come out now
Stay tuned!

Was there a particular incident recently that made you want to post this? Just wondering what happened...

He's talking about a small competition in BC called elite bhangra. As an audience member at that competition the placings were head scratching, but most have come to expect that considering how stupid the system is here. I can't remember the last competition where Baldev Mann or CJ saini were not the main judges of a competition. And I can't remember the last time they didn't have controversial placings either. BC needs new blood in regards to judges imo

Yeah I had the opportunity for the first time to just sit back and enjoy the show at Elite Bhangra in Abbotsford. Everyone put on a show especially all the junior teams! Bhangra is def headed in the right direction in the BC area, however with that said the placing for the senior category were absolutly absurd. First off you just shouldn't place 5 teams out of 8 that competed. There was a tie for 1st and 3rd place... Secondly one of the best teams of the night where everyone thought was in conversation for first didn't even get a placing?? However shit happens and you just gotta move on to the next one. I'm just pumped that our youth is in great hands and hopefully next year all BC comps will make some neccasary changes to judging! (idols, elite, etc)

I've always wanted to get out to BC. I've been a fan of BC teams since I first started dancing, back in the days of Bhangra Masti in Toronto. Would love the chance to contribute as a judge if given the opportunity. I've judged 14 comps in the US, if anyone could suggest me for a future comp in BC id be honored!

Would you guys mind elaborating more about where you see room for improvement with judging in BC comps? Is it the judges chosen, the rubric, lack of rules/structure? Maybe we can help make a change
