Oh shit you are in PDAP, thats sick!Sumanth said:SICK set. really creative and energetic! andd sexy dancers.
greatlyy appreciated kartik!Kartik said:Always have had mad respect for the kind of love you guys have for what you do up in Rochester! Every team has to make the transition with new dancers, and its great that you guys got started early.
One thing I'd suggest in general is trying to use more of the stage throughout the dance. For a lot of the formations you were either in a horizontal segment of stage (sapp, jhummar), or clumped, lined up etc. Stage also looks pretty big so that could have contributed to this.
Clever second phumania, maybe emphasize that variation so it looks clearer and gets the deserved response. Leg kick in khunda segment was awesome, had the SGPD leprechaun kick effect. Overall I think you could take a few more risks with choreo, as I've been seeing a lot of co-ed teams this year pushing the limit. With the fasla segment in the middle that goes into phumania, adding some spice there wouldn't hurt. I liked the ending segment choreo when the beat drops, fit well. Also, some more interaction within jodis would be nice, it was pretty much limited to jhummar.
Cleaning up the formations and practicing with the newer dancers is what all teams need to do at this point so that's what I would suggest! Keep up the the good work, and if you have the commitment to take it to the next level I'm sure you guys will beast next semester!
def something we had to work on at the beg of the year and are continuing to work on...thanks!bagmi said:very clean and def. fun to watch.
You have some great talent on the team, but though formations were clean, I noticed some disparities in dancers (not in ability, but style). One thing that stands our is out of the 2 red jori girls, one of them had insanely high legs and the other was much more subdued but a great dancer. I'm a girl, so I'm a little picky about those things, but they def. stand out.
its not a jhummar song perse but one of our teammembers (raj) thought we'd try it out and it worked perfectly....anyways its attachedAshveer said:Hey Ahmad, can you post/tell us the name of the song of the first jhumar song, that starts at 2:05? Thanks
thanks for the suggestion, we'll def try it out!Ashveer said:Also your formation/domino at 3:40 might get more of a crowd reaction if you start in the back of the circle and go to the front. try it at practice and see if it looks better.
greatly appreciated dheerja!dheerja said:You guys have improved tremendously since last year, you've obviously worked really hard on improving your dancers and it definitely shows. I completely agree with what Kartik said, you need to bring a new level of creativity in your choreo/formations that will put you ahead of other coed teams. There are definitely the smaller things that are easy to fix (using the stage more, cleaning dancers, etc.) and doing that will keep you in contention with the top coed teams. But I don't think any of those things will take enough effort to prevent you from stepping the routine itself up to a new level of creativity. At this point I'd say just go all in and push the limit because you have all the ingredients for it.
That being said, here are my comments on this routine
- agree with the formations comments above, I noticed this the most in the first props segment, you don't expand across the stage until you get into the two lines. it happens again in the phumanian and after, lines aren't being hit and the formations seem like they're only using half the stage
- didn't like the domino betka effect with the props, do something crazier
- girls did a GREAT job at katos, I love the way they were using the string to add grace and movement to the overall effect
- some of the guys need work on sapps and maintaining form while using a sapp (back straight, etc)
- LOVED the khunde kick thing, exactly the kind of thing you should build on
- the jhummar execution was great, it's really difficult to do a jhummar segment that slow and have all 12 dancers maintain grace and cleanliness. great great job on that. BUT I would definitely speed it up, it's too slow for too long for the majority of audiences
- not a big fan of the segment right after jhummar, the formations and choreo didn't really hit for me
- same comments for the betka domino effect, keep backs straight
- dhamaal was awesome, really liked the choreo for this segment
- really liked the formations/choreo for the last minute with the girls coming through/splitting, etc. I would follow the same general idea for the rest of the formations in the routine, with positions clear so it's apparent what the formation is and what it's moving into
- come up with something crazy and different for the ending mela, when you're at Blowout it's going to look like every other team's ending, use the awesome mix at the end and create something that will really stick
Great job guys and good luck this year!!
