Hey guys,


Here's our video from this past weekend at BAB! We all had a blast and for a new team with first time dancers, this was an amazing experience for us!

Huge shoutouts to our liaisons TJ and Gary, to Sahab and PHS for letting us use their saaps, to Shaun for the killer mix, to Hardeep for tying some of our paghs, and last but not least, shoutout to our boy Pratik from BU Bhangra who learned the set within a week and put on a great performance!

Yes haha they were girls. We were short two dancer, so we picked those two up and they got the job done.

Thats great. They smashed it. Just a tip though, if there are dancers with such a height difference it would be good if they were in the front a lot so atleast they dont get hidden in the back ( dont know if thats what u wanted to achieve).

Why would you have 2 girls dress up as guys? If you were short two, it would make more sense to go with a squad of 10 male dancers. If you are an all-male bhangra team, it should be all-male.

a lot of teams have used girls as male dancers before. Its a crowd pleasing gimmick at the end of the day i guess.

Just out of curiosity, from what grounds would you dock points on? Simply because of gender? Personally I don't think that's a reason to dock points because no where does it say that girls are not allowed to dance as guys; it's been done plenty of times before. As long as it didn't hurt the routine, it should be fine.

What's up guys, congrats on your first performance! Here are some critiques for y'all moving forward:


I thought the set was super slow tempo-wise with very few build-ups, which led to a number of issues.
- most of your dancers seemed to just go through the motions of the routine, rather than completing each step with full extensions and modhey.
- the set lacked power. from an all-guys team I guess I expect a little more energy across the board.
- if you're deciding to be more graceful vs. more powerful, then really commit to that. get your dancers on the same level and get everyone flowing between steps.
- choreo seemed pretty standard, nothing stood out to me as being incredibly creative or unique


On a more positive note, i thought the girls killed it (not sure why some people are complaining about it), but the drawn on dhari looked a little silly to me. it made it more obvious that it was a girl in my opinion. Also the red (i think?) guy with the dhari who was in front for jugni and jhoomer was sick. really graceful and really nice nakhra. if you can get all your dancers to look like that and you beef up the routine and make it a little more exciting, i think you guys would be really fun to watch.

The songs and bolis we are dancing to are about gabrus wearing kurta/chadra/taveet, etc. and the mutiyaars dupatta, nak vich koka, etc. There is a gender difference that should be respected. I guarantee if I or anyone wore a salwaar with stuffed kameez and dressed as a female on stage, judges would take off points. It would also be considered jaloos on this platform.


Abhi - sorry you took this the wrong way but it is "REAL" feedback about your set and not just about "two dancers." A bhangra team presents a product top to bottom, first dancer to last. If 2 out of your 12 are sticking out and distracting, it is an issue as it is very large piece - over 15% of your team. The first two comments about this video were "is the black jodi girls" and "i thought black jodi was kids." So you can see the issue, you don't want anyone to stick out on your team like that and clearly they do.

In the Anakhiley E Gabroo video, all the dancers are actually girls... hehehe just kiddinggg Seriously though, the whole cross dressing thing is old news.

Here is some feedback on the performance overall. Great job - hope this helps! Good luck RVD

+ Choreo and formations were solid
+ Love khundey at 2.56. I liked the ending exit.
+ Good dancers, stage presence and eye contact/confidence as a team in general. This will take you far if you continue to clean up
- Change up the pace... The first 3 minutes are continuously at the same tempo
- More barkaan as a team (hoi hoi hoi, lalkaarey, etc)
- Straightening your arms and cleaning up the angles of your arms will instantly make you cleaner

The day a guy stuffs a bra as a girl it won't be a "non-issue." I provided my thoughts. I asked for examples of the guys dressing up as girls because "it has happen many times in the past" and there were none.
