A couple good things comes from this. Getting a new arena opens up chances of getting another pro team, most likely hockey (I think the coyotes are available if im not mistaken) for now. But maybe a baseball or even football team 10 years from now If the city can grow enough and possibly fund a large stadium (LONG SHOT). Also opens up opportunities for more big named music acts. And most importantly, i dont need to drive to oakland to watch the lakers, bulls, nyk, and KD & Co play ball.

Hockey team is doubtful. Don't think anyone in Sacramento is really interested. As for football, short of getting the raiders, which almost happened a long time ago, I don't think we'd get a team.

Fuck the maloofs. No, seriously, fuck the maloofs. They renege on the term sheet over the 3.5 million of development costs and then it comes out that:
A. The league would have given them 7 million FOR FREE.
B. The league would have arranged for a long-term loan for the remaining 67 million of their obligation using the league's credit line, since the magoofs are broke jokes with bad credit. This would have been significant, to say the least.

There are just no words. I'm crushed.

I dont understand why anaheim deserves a team. They have one of the lowest attendances in the NHL. Seattle or Vancouver deserve the Kings.

The OC doesn't really have a bball team, so I guess Anaheim would make some sense. But they'd be fighting with the Lakers and Clippers for market share, which will be tough. In the end, that would just mean a few more home games for my Lakers :)

Not only that. Since the Lakers have that billion dollar time warner contract, very rarely will the kings/royals be shown on tv, so they wouldn't get much tv based sponsorship. Unless I'm missing something?

There is less than 0 chance of Anaheim getting the kings. They'd have to pay a 300 million dollar tv penalty to the lakers. That ain't happening.

How does that actually work? I'm curious. Do the kings and lakers have a deal with the same provider or something?

Under the terms of the CBA, LA is some sort of protected TV market. If another team arrives and wants tv coverage, they have to pay a penalty in terms of lost revenue to the lakeshow.

Seattle's an unlikely choice for relocation as well. You guys are even farther away from an arena than we are. The irony f the situation is that barring a maloof financial collapse, they're not moving the team. But we're going to wither and die with a fan base that doesnt want to give the owners a cent and owners teetering on the brink of financial collapse.

Mark my words: this is the death knell for small market NBA franchises, because what it says is that you can do everything right and even then, you can get your team swept out from underneath you. Seattle was supposed to be ne side of the coin and Sacramento the other. Now they're both just two sad cities.
