Sanded my dhol

Hey guys I sanded my dhol and I think it's ambh looks way better but it seems really plain after I've put 3 coats of saron da thel (mustard oil) on it.. Should I coat it with one coat of clear varnish? Also the dick who sold it to me painted it to hide all the cracks but he's also used filler on it which makes it look shitter but it still looks nice any suggestions on what I should do?

lol the drum ain`t bad looking...its moninderdholtoronto btw, regarding the dickhead...im pretty sure he bought the drum in india where it was already painted to hide fillers and he never knew jack about dhol other than the fact that he wanted to play it. regarding the finish, you can varnish it but unless you have humidity issues I don`t think you need to varnish it. what you can do is when roping the dhol put the strap on the drum so that when holding the dhol while playing, the fillers (at least the biggest most noticeable one) is facing you and not towards the crowd or if you know someone who can remove the filler and then add a new filler and try to color match it then you can do that too but I would not bother.

haha yeah as i've said before people usually paint dhols to cover up defects. your drum looks very light, almost yellowish. I would sand it down even further till its almost white, then give it atleast 5-6 coats of oil. Even though its amb it still shouldn't look yellow, it should be a very light brownish color. If the color still bothers you, what you can do is sand the oil off and stain the drum a darker color. Its 100% better than painting it and you get to pick the color/shade of the drum.

The colour didn't really bother me but looks a lot better now I put a bit of varnish on it. Looks 10 x better than when it was painted. Thanks anyways bro

Thinking of buying a remo ebony ambassador.. My drum is 12" but I've
Seen people put a bigger size head on it. Should I get a 12" or a 13"? Also anyone know the cheapest site to buy it from?

use tape measure to measure the outer rim of tilli side(not the head, the side of dhol)

-if it's 11.5" - 12", get a 12"
-if it's 12.5" - 13", get a 13"

I have a 12" MR on it so ill probably need a 12" but like I said people put 1" bigger so you don't hit the rim and get a click sound. What's the cheapest and best site to buy from?
