Hey Meistro,

When you highlight something, instead of doing saying "THIS IS HIGHLIGHTED. I WANT TO EMPHASIZE IT", do you mind trying one of the following?

THIS MAKES IT EASIER TO READ. or THIS IS GOOD TOO..

It may take a bit more time, but it really hurts my eyes. A few other people do it as well.

Thanks.

And regarding to the matter at hand, power to SGPD for trying something new. That's my honest opinion. It may not be considered absolute traditional, but keep pushing new boundaries, SGPD!

Quick question - How much should vardiyaan be considered in deciding whether a team is traditional? If choreography and execution are used to decide whether a team is traditional, should presentation be evaluated in terms of fits? For example, if you see a team perform with fits from 1999 and fan turlas, how traditional would you consider them? Not much traditional at all, I guess. Then shouldn't anything BUT the basic colors, basic designs and longer vests be considered NOT-TRADITIONAL?

Truskool Fits? Not traditional?
SGPD Fits? Not traditional?
Heck, those turlas on NJ on two colors. NJ Fits? Not traditional?

Arjun! thanks for posting those videos! you just proved my point. Just as I said before, execution of moves have changed slightly. Emphasis was different before whereas now we focus more on fluidity and full range of a particular action. Compare lehria from that 1956 video to lehria done now. Can you really see THAT BIG of a difference that you would say "I cant believe you would say that"? Move onto that bindrakhia video, then the next one, keep adding on the videos! And tell me honestly, has bhangra really "evolved" that much? Really? I must really be out of my mind eh?
I guess it's just in the eye of the beholder of what "different" is. Definitely the pace is so different dude, even videos in India are so much more energetic and fast-paced and complex now. The entire face of the dance has changed (yea, i meant face, as in ambience or overall aesthetic of the dance).

I dunno Kinnell, I think if Gabroo Shokeen did their routine in sweatpants and hoodies it'd still be traditional.

??? I really don't understand why people can't just comment on the set and leave it at that.

It was a good set in my opinion, but just not clean. This whole controversy over the "evolution of bhangra" is simply stated, is stupid. It was bound to happen, if people have different ideas to possible make the set more enjoyable to watch, its natural to incorporate it. I for one would not enjoy bhangra if it was still done the same way back 60 years ago. Either way, the way we dance now is not so different from the way we dance when bhangra started, the foundation is there, just a few tweaks here and there

And people bashing Meistro for his comments, I honestly don't get why you would do that, we're all entitled to an opinion. If somone doesn't like the set and has different views on how the live set should have been done, then just leave them be; what your trying to do is say that he's wrong and his opinion is useless.

And please, STOP COMPARING TEB TO SGPD! SGPD gave TEB dancers to help TEB. The set was made by TEB dancers, SGPD helped out here and there; but they did not make the complete set.

So yea, Big ups to everyone who went to the competition, and congrats to SGPD and everyone else who entered the live catagory for having the balls to go full live.

To Mr. Dhesi!: Sure, being live might not have "no requirements" to you. But see that is why there are only a handful of people like you who feel that way, or else live bhangra wouldn't exist the way it does today. Im sure then you're gonna say "oh but dude wheres the RULE BOOK, BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH"! WHo needs one? Nachdi Jawani doesn't need a rule book when they go live.......Notice their Recorded music sets compared to their Live sets....See a difference? How about the traditional bhangra that VCU does in their sets compared to Pyare Put Ankhilay? Huge Difference! How about the difference beween Duniya co-ed and AVA (when they were performing), DEFINITELY a difference there!
To the handful of people comment, I guess it's good that all the people that throw competitions think like me and make the only requirement to go live be that you go live.
You're post is actually quite funny. About the Nachdi Jawani comment, this ties back into Vic's "we got it from India". If at the next competition, Nachdi were to do live the way SGPD did it, your entire comment would be rendered meaningless. Why must one team do bhangra the way someone else does it? What gives any team the right to set a precedent? The fact that you, or a handful of people, like it? You mentioned about their music/live sets, and also VCU/PPAs, and Duniya and AVAs; is there no slight possibility that no team, until now, thought of going live this way? Of course not, that would be impossible (sarcasm noted).
You also mentioned elsewhere about United and how they declared that they do bhangra the way they want and are not necessarily trying to do it the way that it is traditionally done. Just so I'm clear, how did they make this statement? Was it a BTF thread? Press conference? Or did they just happen to mention it one day? Or could it be that when they performed, they performed the way they wanted to, and that showed that they choose to perform the way they wanted to. Can it not be that by SGPD performing how they did, they outright showed the world that they want to perform the way they want? Or must they come on here and start a thread stating that they are not looking to live bhangra the way every other team does it?
Also, regarding the comments about Bhangra's true origins/traditions, it is true, that none of us probably know completely exactly how bhangra was originally done and changes have been made. So then just based off of the "unbeatable bhangra" vid or other vids, does that give us a right to shoot down anybody else's way of doing bhangra? Also, you made reference to the "eh folk ah" comment and "folk" and I actually found this interesting. I don't know why you say "eh folk ah/jaloose/folk" and I don't know when you started saying it, but I found it quite amusing that all it takes is for the word to be thrown around on the forum a few times and that's it, everyone will use it for everything. The majority of ppl who throw around such phrases are not "idiots" for using it, but the majority of people who use it, just throw it around because it's the new cool slang of the bhangra world.
Kinnell, that's actually pretty interesting as well what you said about the vardiyaan ; why is it that we can "supe up" our vardiyaan without it being a problem, yet somethign like SGPDs routine to live bhangra sparks so much nonsense? Hmmmmm.....

Dhesi....out
<damn I'm sorry for the outta control post; I'm supposed to be writing a paper so I guess I'm just in the typing mood>
