Someone who thought the movie could have been better would have had a much more intelligent discussion with the latter person than a toddler.
Or maybe the part when the toddler does susu on the more intelligent persons face would be more fitting
He's asking you to explain why you feel that this was the best music set this year.

This is my favorite music set in a while simply because I enjoyed the choreo and music choice alot and I think Shan E has some of the strongest dancers they're a next level team too me. There's really nothing else I could add I don't write alot and go into every little detail and I probably won't in the future but that's just My Opinion I really enjoyed it. No drama just my opinion mitro.

Bro that's all he could've said they're was no need for all that extra stuff but maybe that's just his personality.
Sue will be Sue. His aim was to entertain, and what he wrote was pretty funny.

And I'm not gonna tell you not to post your opinions, but if you delved a bit deeper into your thoughts as to why you think this choreo was great, or why these guys have the strongest dancers, then you can say stuff like "idk what everyones talking about, this was best." and folks won't say anything

I'm just trying to help you so this stuff doesn't keep happening.

should people give unsolicited critiques and opinions more often? after a performance teams get feedback from judges, they get feedback from trusted peers, they watch their performance repeatedly and analyze everything themselves. is it really necessary for teams to have to deal with "constructive feedback" on btf from random anonymous users who deem themselves to have a superior understanding of bhangra?
This is actually kinda interesting, not because of the drama in the posts above, but because it's not like SEP is asking for feedback from BTF. There are usually plenty of teams which post their own videos and actually ask for feedback, but these days with GTV going to EVERY single bhangra competition and posting videos automatically, is it even appropriate to give this level of critical feedback here? If a team is offering up their own video to critiques, I think that other people should definitely give all ranges of criticism, but without that invitation from a team for such feedback it would be kinda weird to try to provide it. Just some food for thought, I think we all (myself included) got into the habit of giving constructive criticism and advice to teams whenever videos are posted, but what if they simply don't want it? If we're not the ones judging them in the comp and they don't want our input, who are we to try to force it upon them?

I guess what I'm wondering is, why are we being so sensitive about getting feedback? We're all (presumably) adults and we should be able to read a post and weed through what we think is bullshit and what we think is important.

Yes, lately BTF is becoming crowded with critiques and hate, but why are we telling ourselves that we are so good that only a judge can weigh in on our set. Guess what? The majority of judges are on BTF and they watch these videos. And if you watch videos, you're probably making mental notes of things you like and didn't like anyway. So why not post them on a public forum so that anyone who reads it can decide whether it matters to them or not?

There's always room to get better. The fact that we're trying to avoid discussion amongst the best bhangra minds in the world is honestly silly and the circuit is going to be worse for it in the long run.

*End Rant*
I think you misunderstood what I was saying. When teams themselves post a video on a public forum, they're openly asking for feedback. But what if they're not looking for any feedback and their video gets posted anyway? This doesn't necessarily have to do with Shan-e Punjab, but just a hypothetical situation. It's not that people shouldn't critique them, no matter how good they are, but how much merit is there relative to giving feedback to a team that wants it and will do something with it? It was just an interesting thought, nothing more.

Fair enough. My response was more directed to the quote you had quoted and the general attitude that I've seen on BTF lately about getting critiques. You definitely bring up a fair point, but I think even if a team doesn't want critiques they can simply decide not to read them. But thanks for the clarification!

LOL at this thread. People can say whatever the f*** they want about a performance. Regardless if the team wants feedback or not, they can simply choose whether or not to take it.

too many fudhs on this site get butt hurt when someone gives their own opinion. Disagree with it? fine. bash them for giving an opinion? DAFUQ

Part of bhangra's foundation is based on imagined expertise in the first place. The uncles who fashioned themselves as ustaads/experts in the states didn't really have a clue what they were doing, since a generation or two before them, bhangra didn't exist.
YES. YES. YES. YES. YES. YES.

Buyer beware though, just because it was built on ambivalent and imagined categories, doesn't mean that those categories haven't accrued cultural capital that is difficult to change. In fact, I would argue that the true moment for bhangra to break free from imagined cultural constraint was in the 90s early 2000s when there was more buy-in from non-Sikhs, but other forces (Youtube, Raas/HFD comps) foreclosed that possibility.

I agree with the both positive and negative feedback from all the users, and I respect that. I always appreciate the negative feedback more than the positive feedback, that is what has gotten our team to the point we are at today. Here are the couple things I want to point out:

Routine: We basically took the same routine as Idols to compete at Motor City Bhangra. Reasons behind it was that knowing Gary as a friend, I promised him that girls team would come at Motor City Bhangra but things came up, and the girls team couldn't make it to the competition. To keep the promise, I told Gary that the boys team would replace it. At that point, we didn't have enough time to change the routine as I had to teach the routine to couple new dancers. The routine had all the traditional aspects/elements to win at the competition alongside a little entertainment (which Shan E Punjab is all about). We are not about bringing new creative elements to the circuit but just having the right form and execution. As to our fans, I feel that you were not pleased with us taking the same routine to a competition after 4 months but we will make it up for you guys at the next competition with a brand new routine (maybe no jumps this time :)

Judging: As far as the judging goes, there was already a big thread about how the judging was at Motor City. None of the teams were left with constructive feedback. We were told that if we had less jumps and no khoo, we would've placed. None of that explains that we were not traditional when simply we had no mistake. Again, judging comes down to the four individuals who has their own perception about who should win the competition. Having judged myself and from all the competing experience, I find out that the whole problem was with the competition not explaining what type of routine they wanted us to bring as we are known for catering to the style of competiiton. All we were told bring a folk routine (Folk is a vague term), having a khoo in the routine would make the routine more folk and not modern. Doing 36 jumps doeesn't make a routine look modern. I still have thoughts about judges credibility. A night before competition, one of the judges said "Je team da sapp tutt jaave, ohnu bhangra ni aaunda". Next day, we see a team with broken get first place. Nothing against virsa, we helped them with their paggan before we tied our own paggan. We love and respect all the teams.

On a side note, all the peers and respected people from the circuit including other teams came to us and said that we should've won. Kohinoor came to us and said "Kohinoor didn't deserve to win but how did Shan-E not win ?" I still haven't talked to one person that say the Virsa should win over this routine except the judges.

It took me a while to get over the fact that we didn't win as we had a good five first places streak going and it sucks that the first place streak is over. I know we have young dancers and we keep red jodi at the front. Not all of them have the experience as some of our dancers plus all the things that have been noted. I would still welcome constructive feedback as for the people who are wondering if we want feedback.

On the closing note, I would like to say thanks to everyone replying on the thread and taking time out to watch our video. We love and respect all of our fans and we will be back with a good folk routine. (less gimmicks, more bhangra)

Understand where your coming from. However, when you compare your set to Virsa, Virsa brought a much more folkier, no gimmick set. I think most people realized that your set was the same as idols, while Virsa brought a set to MCB that showed how improved they had become in terms of their dancing individually and as a team. Ya they may have had two saaps break, but that shouldn't take away from the totality of Virsa's performance. Maybe the fact they went last helped, i dunno, but regardless, comparing each set still doesn't favor Shan E.

I have much respect for you guys so don't take my comments personally. I don't know shit about bhangra because I've never danced so I'm probably wrong as hell. Im giving my 2 cents in terms of a viewer whose just a big fan of bhangra. You guys did well for 2nd place but def not for 1st.
