I don't think our team is ready yet to compete at these levels of competitions, are there other smaller less competitive comps.

There are very few comps in the midwest in general, all I can think of are Nachte Raho and Aa Dekhen Zara ( heard PCS might be throwing a full comp in chicago? but I don't know details on it). Both have finished registrations but you might email them asking to be on the waitlist.

As a young team, focus on multi-style comps (e.g. bhangra+raas+fusion category comps) and trying to be exhibition at big HFD/Fusion comps. Good experience, and in both cases you dance on a real stage and get feel for performing in a big venue. Every time you perform, your team improves, so look for any opportunity

To add onto what Swi suggested, while you wait to get into competitions... I would also consider doing gigs and performing at cultural shows with an early team.

With gigs, your team might not be performing on an actual stage, but it should boost your confidence and you can catch errors. You don't have the pressure of being judged, so it gives your dancers an opportunity to get used to performing, using formations in a limited space, keeping your smiles/nakhre going through the performance, and testing your stamina levels.

Have someone record your team at gigs and cultural shows to see where you screw up and which dancers are "off." Review the footage as a team and talk about how to improve - this should help immensely before you go up against more established teams at full fledged competitions.

Hope this helps and good luck,

~ Basim :)
