speakers

so right now i've got a 5.1 speaker system from Sony that i bought probably five years ago. It's a great system for what I need it for. Quality sound with decent bass. Honestly It's getting to the point where the cables going around my room and all the clutter around my computer because of these speakers is getting very annoying...

looking into buying new speakers. This time im actually just looking to get a simple 2.1 speaker system (2 speakers with a woofer). Just looking for something decent, that doesnt cost a fortune. My bedroom isn't a car, so i'm not looking to have the bass shake my entire house. Just looking for somethign that has quality sound, decent bass, and reliable.

Any suggestions?

The Z-5500 is a 5.1 speaker system and the best hands surround sound setup for PC (or small living room) space considering how cheap it is priced at. I have them and trust me, they are quite nice (especially considering they have a digital decoder built in and have tons of inputs).

I doubt he wants to pay $250+ for a 5.1 speaker system and only use the front two speakers. That defeats the whole purpose of getting the Z-5500.

If you're looking for stricly a 2.1 setup and you want the best available, check out the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. They probably have the best overall reviews out of any 2.1 setup. The only problem that I've read about them is amp failures/reliability. For that reason alone, I would not recommend them.

I would recommend the Logitech Z-2300 (you can probably find them for around $130). Read some reviews of 2.1 PC speakers and you might get a better idea of what will suit your needs the best.

not sure what the price point of the indended purchase is, but the 5500 is a rock solid system which i feel would serve good for both music and movies even considering that he wants a 2.1 system... i owned klipsch's 4.1 version of the promedia's and i was not amazed at all, especially in terms of bass... since then, my amp fried on the unit and klipsch would not warranty it... not a pleasant purchase considering i bought them when they first came out back in 2000 i believe @ full msrp... and please dont think about bose's 2.1 solution...

Sonuu, I would recommend getting them from: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Z-2300-THX-Certified-200-Watt-Speaker/dp/B0002SQ2P2/

They have rebate offer going on right now, which drops these down to $107.88 + Free Shipping (the cheapest I've seen after some quick searching). Also, Amazon has top notch customer service.

By the way, I don't own the aforementioned speakers, but you can read the reviews of people that have them (Amazon.com currently had 837 reviews for them from various owners).

I have an older Boston Accoustic setup for the PC and I have the Z-5500 for the living room (also connected to my PC).

Hope that helps,

~ Basim :)

z-5500s are great. They can break with heavy use (i.e. bhangra practice) but personal use is awesome

I love my creature IIs. cheap, good bass, simple setup

for cars: kickersss and JL w7...i usee kickers...goodd sounddd but DONT cheap out on the amp or there gonna send like ass. W7 is the sickest. but u cant pound them on full because your car will fall apart. my friend has the w7 subs, when he blasted them for the first time his rear view mirror fell 10 seconds into the song, and his car was totally rattle-proofed.

good call on the 2300's, specs look good and sub design looks similar to the 5500... as for cars, i'm not really a kicker fan, but that is just my personal opinion... jl audio w7's are rulers of all subwoofers, but they're very expensive and require a lot of power to get the right output... i personally have 2 eclipse aluminum series 15's in my vehicle, and they're jaw dropping loud and clean... i can open the trunk and pound the speakers, and all you hear is bass... no distortion, and no basket's bottoming out...

2300's are perfect for the price basim posted, 107 or so i believe it was. I like the whole "house rocking" so im looking into the 5500's, prolly sometime after xmas though.

for the car, i would go with rockford T2's
