Sponsorship Packages for Bhangra Teams

Our team is looking to start requesting sponsorships from local businesses (and probably some bigger businesses eventually), and we were wondering if anyone had any experience doing this with their teams? More specifically, we're trying to figure out what dollar amounts to set the relative sponsorship levels/rewards at and aren't really sure where to begin (e.g. $100 for team names on the back of apparel, $250 for a social media shout out, etc.). If anyone has any experience or ideas regarding getting sponsors for their teams, let me know!

Depends on what your media out reach is. (ie- how many followers on social media, how you'll advertise, etc).

An idea would be: Have a business(es) pay for travel costs to a compt. And in the shout out and intro video have their logo prominent. But compt organizations might be against this.

My suggestion: Start small. Ask local shops and professionals (like dentists) for $100 in exchange for advertising on your website and Facebook page. (Make sure you have a nice website and a Facebook page with a strong local following first) If you have a lot of local performances, you can acknowledge your sponsors there too. Honestly I feel like most people sponsor teams as charity/goodwill. Be humble and ask for a small amount, and ask the sponsor what you can do for them.

Look for gigs. Those are usually the most efficient use of time, and the more you do the better you become.
I'd network with DJs, photographers, and event planners

@ManrajBajwa Primarily for getting some disposable income that we can use for competition expenses, but also increasing our reach in the community to get more people to be aware of us/more gig opportunities. In addition, we're trying to develop mutual relationships with other organizations in the community to be more inter-connected.

Thanks for all the suggestions! We'll definitely start small and work our way up towards bigger organizations as we get a larger local following.

Yea OMG we(Josh Jawani Da) is at the same phase.Well What our methods are like this.

Bhangra classes
Try to approach an organisation on the classes and it would be easier to convince the organisation if ur an Learn Bhangra App Ambassador. This way the community can reach you to come and learn bhangra and if they like it maybe they can join ur group.

Gigs
Gigs are also the fastest way to learn cash.Just one night and you get hundreds of dollars. But it also another way top showcase your team to the community. It can be form of awareness.I tried it once on my own solo bhangra performance and people came up to me and said that "I have never seen that type of bhangra before was something really different to me".So this is one way to earn fast cash and showcase your team.In the punjabi community, the word of mouth spread faster than the social medias

Local news paper
One more way you could do it write about your group in your local punjabi newspaper if there is any. That way you attract the attention of big shot in big punjabi orgnisations and they might help you out.

It takes a lot of time to build this relationship but if your in the right place, the right time and the right people will there you will definitely do it

lodhi is coming up, find out all the community events going on and ask if you can hand out flyers or what not. make business cards also and let people know youre available for hire (wedding season is only 5 months away!!)

3 things i can think of that helped fcb get money back in the day

- we performed at the big Lodhi event in pittsburgh, gave a little speech about who we are and what our goals were, and passed around a hat asking for donations. we got a few hundred bucks that really helped us get off the ground. we also handed out our info to everyone there

- find a dholi or sell your dholi out as much as possible. sometimes people just want to hire a dholi, and its reallllll easy to go do a gig and rack in some cash for your team. we prob made more money from dholi services (even me playing basic beats during a baraat) than performances at the start.

- get creative. i had my dad put flyers in all the mailboxes of indian people that worked in his office. a few weeks later we got some checks in the mail.

Quite honestly, unless youre a comp, Empire, or operating out of a town with a HUGE indian population, you prob dont have much to offer a business in terms of a sponsoring relationship. Talk to people honestly and explain what your team hopes to do for the community- im sure people will be willing to donate to support something homegrown. Youre gonna have to work for your money to some extent.

Is there any team out there successfully operating off of sponsorship money?

@whoever wants to talk about this more, feel free to pm me. I (and Ram and Sid i'm sure) would have no prob explaining what worked when we were getting FCB off the ground.
