i'm pretty enthused about this acquisition, but there's a lot of things that can go wrong.

first off, what are they going to make movies 7, 8, and 9 about? extended universe material? the extended universe is really a mixed bag; there are some really awesome storylines, and there are some really shitty ones. for some reason, i see disney more likely to pick a shitty one.

even worse, they could choose to fabricate a story arc de novo. there's like a 95% chance that turns out badly.

most annoying, however, will be the fact that no matter what disney does, there will be incessant and riotous protests by "die-hard" fans of the series lamenting the slaughtering of all that is good in their insular, narrow world.

Do the licensing fees stack, so all merchandise is double the cost? I've been eyeing that yoda backpack but at $60 it was kinda not worht it. If it's gonna jump to $120 I think I may have found a commodity for traders ;)

as far as im concerned, the newer trilogy was not good, and episode 1 was especially a large piece of tatti, so i dont think they can do worse than that, and even then i still loved the newer trilogy. i am very curious as to what they chose for the material, that will probably be guarded pretty heavily till closer to the release, and i know im going to be reading every single internet article for the next 3 years tryna figure out what it is so waiting for that will suck. and yeah fans will hate lol, its ok like i said a world with star wars in it is GREAT! plus i have a high mediclorine count and i can feel that these movies will be great. fear not!

Episode III was an excellent wrap up to the new trilogy. you know the story, you know where it's going and it's job was to explain convincingly how it happened and truly make it tragic. I think it did that pretty well. My only issue would be not just cutting away once they put the mask/helmet on. and have a black screen with just the breathing. That's how I'll choose to remember the movie ending.

I recently watched Episode I, and it's not not that bad, Jar Jar (who I think is overly-maligned) was not the issue. It was the writing and the casting.
i love ewan mcgregor(sp) as obi won, but hated both versions of anakin that stupid little kid with the bowl cut, and hayden christianson(sp) like i said those 3 are not as good as the first 3 and one is the weakest but I STILL LOVE EM. i think disney will do it right, iron man and thor give me hope.

also i hope shit doesnt get extra expensive i wouldnt know because i have never bought disney shit before lol, but star wars shit was already so expensive so if the prices on shirts and crap goes up we should def pile up now and sell later

From what I have read its supposed to be a continuing storyline of Luke Skywalker, Hans Solo, and Princess Leia. The Lucasfilms writers apparently already have an extensive storyline and the film is already in the early development stages

Please why not just make some movies about Boba Fett. He is easily the most talked about character with the least amount of history (unless you have explored the star wars universe). Making a darker and edgier star wars - a la batman etc - would probably go against the whole disney acquisition, but it would be so much better than trying to resurrect hero's that, over time, seemingly have become irreplaceable. Seriously - who is going to play Luke?

Also, I know I am going to be in the minority, but I liked what Lucas tried to do with the first 3 movies. It was muddled, sure, by trying to add heroic elements into the story of the whole canon's biggest anti-hero, but seriously, the concepts of falling to the dark side and the ethics of those movies were way more complicated than the redemption and save the gal story line of the first three. At the end of the first three, you with this awesome feeling of sweetness as it seems that almost everything has come full circle. However, the last three movies leave you questioning a lot of things about reality, power, peoples place in society, etc. IF George Lucas hadn't tried smash banging both of these things in one movie, making obi-wan out to be luke skywalker, trying to make anakin likeable, etc, these movies would have been way better in terms of the parallels you could draw to them what was going on in the world at the time.

A lot of times movies, especially those bordering on the fantastical, are better when they have mechanisms that allow you to relate to them ( see harry potter/batman/ironman). The newest ones tried, but couldn't fit the fabric of everything together.

P.S. I am really really really really sad to see George Lucas. The amount of material and the movies he made are some of the best things that a person has done in the industry. Star Wars and Indiana Jones are some of the most iconic and revered film franchises in the world. The fact that they will go on without input of the guy that started one and helped make the other happen just sucks.

I heard it is supposedto be about their children and rebuilding the Jedi school. Also I heard they are bringing Darth Vader back.

That's from the books -> the kids and rebuilding the school. I find it hard to have anyone, btw, play the role of Luke. Part of the quality of him was he was an endearing and seemingly normal looking dude. No one in hollywood looks anything like him ( they are either good actors who are older/younger for the timeframe, or models who just can't act).
