Starting a Team...

I think you answered your question in that post. Take it from someone who started a team from scratch, you have to learn how to be flexible. You seem to have a lot of ideas and the more you fixate on what YOU want rather than what the team wants, you will eventually lose them. Ultimately, you started the team so people will naturally defer to your direction. You will need help because it helps you grow as a leader - leaders know when to be a follower and when to truly lead. With that said, it really is a compromise between democracy and dictatorship - for the most part you will be looked at to lead but there are times you will need to take a back seat because people will have better or more popular ideas. When you start acting like a true dictator you're likely to lose dancers rather than have them fall in line. Remember, this stuff is optional so there is always the out to quit the team without any issue.

i agree and i also think that its a TEAM thing given there is a captain but if i was joining a TEAM i would want a say in some things that i would prefer done a different way. Try putting yourself in your team members shoes.

Don't try to do everything yourself. It works best if you delegate things off to people and just kind of watch over to make sure everything gets done. This also gives your team members a sense of ownership and makes sure there's a certain level of accountability amongst all teammates.

good luck

ultimately I honestly feel that you are starting a team for the wrong reasons. Your posts have been very angry and profane and we all understand why. Believe me, we've all cursed members of our teams and bitched and whined but the fact is that you don't even have a team yet! I think your decision to wait is a good one.

Ultimately you need to find people who share the passion and dance for fun. You don't seem to respect these girls at all, why should they respect you?

Couldn't have said it better myself. Handing off certain responsibilities to members of the team that you feel are learned in those areas is the best way to get some of the weight off your shoulders. Because there is always going to be someone else better than you at something. And a team that works together, stays together. When everyone gets to have a role, and be a part of something, then what's better than that? Plus your team will establish a lot more quickly, and will get shit done in a very timely manner!
