Starting/Finding a "Beginner's Guide to Bhangra"

[Sparsh]

I just joined BTF and I'm trying to learn more about the basics (i.e. history, terminology, etc.) of bhangra. I've danced for a while but really want to understand the fundamentals. Are there any threads that are dedicated to this purpose/would it be possible to start one?

I know that there was (is?) a Bhangra Wiki, but it's not working, at least on my computer. I also found this:

http://bhangrateamsforum.com/discuss/main-bhangra-discussion/***-wiki-starter-topic-4-common-bhangra-wordsphrases***/

and of course the thread on a pictorial history of bhangra, both of which talked about a lot of the things I was looking for, but not all. Maybe we could start a thread that incorporates all of this info and keep it pinned so that bhangra newbies could get a quick start?

Of course if there already is some such thing, could someone point me in the right direction?

Hi Sparsh. Welcome to BTF.

I have this thread bookmarked that my buddy Arjun B put together many years ago: http://bhangrateamsforum.com/discuss/main-bhangra-discussion/basic-bhangra-presentation-(framework)/msg28052/

It should help you out a lot or anyone that's fairly new. There is actually a lot of content on BTF, but searching for it may be a bit difficult.

Hope it helps,

~ Basim

Thanks Basim. This will help significantly and the presentation is great. Ofc I'll keep looking around BTF for more info/vids.
