Step-by-Step Video Guide to Making Custom Fumman

Hey everyone,

For the past few seasons my mom and I have been making our fumman/phumman (for Spartan Bhangra) from scratch so that we could customize them, replace broken/missing fumman, and save some money. Recently, we've been contacted by a few teams to make new sets of fumman and replace fumman, so we made a step-by-step video guide to making fumman so that anyone can make them on their own! You can use this guide to make single colored or multicolored fumman and they can be any size you want. All you need is whatever color yarn you want to use, scissors, and a 0.75 inch diameter stick (for the size of fumman we usually get when we order from India--the larger the diameter, the larger the fumman balls). Let me know if you have any questions or need any help making them! Once you get the hang of it, it only takes around five minutes to make a single fumman and you can customize them however you want.

Thank you for this man, it's probably going to help countless people out not to mention save tons of money on shipping them over from India. SUPER CLEAR video, wasn't confusing at any point.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Raghav (& your awesome asstiance - aka mom) for this amazing tutorial! It's going to help a TON of people going forward.

I had been searching for something detailed like this back when I used to dance, but there wasn't anything out there. We ended up buying our phumman (with our outfits) from Punjab which was not only quite pricey , but not a good situation if any of your phumman ended up getting tangled & breaking. Basically, if any of them broke, we were pretty much out of luck. I remember trying to make some on my own back them (using yarn), but it was a complete fail.

Again, the bhangra community thanks you for taking the time to put together this tutorial and sharing it!

~ Basim :)
