Team Rules

Meistro... our team funds would be balling then! lol

When it comes to practices we don't have a lot of rules other then be on time, don't dick around, etc. The "common Sense" rules. If you don't have common sense then you deserve to be fined. lol

When we're out on business, then we have rules that we must follow. There is a level of professionalism that people want to see, and pretty much that is a job. So we've got a dress code, we watch our mouths of foul language, on time... the works.

It all depends on the atmosphere your team wants. If your there to have fun then your rules are limited. But if your running an organization, then your more

rules sometimes complicate things.

rule 1 for our team: have fun always.

regardless if your at practice or even at a competition always have fun. literally. nobody ever yells at our practices because it takes the fun out of things. yea sometimes people do end up yelling a bit but that's if shi*ts really hectic. my view is, bhangra is suppose to be fun... none of us would be doing it if it wasnt fun. sometimes i look at other teams around the hotel practicing and think like "whaoo why is this dude snapping on their team?" it just ruins the mood of the entire team.

even if a team is raising hell, and they are trying hard to win - there still should be an understanding that it should be fun. when you dance on stage - people shouldn't have to say "make sure you guys smile" if someone has to say that to you - STOP dancing. its suppose to be fun, its suppose to make you happy you are suppose to smile because you are doing something that you enjoy - not something you are forced to do.

meistro would be fined a gazillion dollars for sure on sgpd.

oops forgot 1 other team rule: no #2 in the bathroom of the hotel room, go to the lobby. or if you are gonna drop it like it's hot, please have your hand on the trigger (flush) ready to rock.

Your Friendly Neighborhood stfu

I agree that rules can sometimes hamper the fun of bhangra...at the same time, when you have people who don't listen to a word you're saying, and they're just goofing off and don't understand the urgency of an impending competition...
Something would have to be done about it. I always have fun, but at the same time, there has to be some sort of semblance of a constructive environment.

"lol my fav rule.......don't come to practice drunk"

We're a university team, and practice on a pretty dry campus. It's not quite the same for independent teams I guess. We just don't want our people to go crazy at practices.

I checked this thread earlier and it was boring...its just crazy now....rules, meistro's droppin bombs, sgpd is farting? back to team rules, ehhh thats tough...its tough for the ENFORCER...every team needs a hitler, just like vic and his slaves in his basement, and that person will sometimes catchhh alotta heat...Mariam, I expect with such strict rules, you are ready and willing to take the whining and complaining you are inevitably going to get. I for one had a problem with this whole come to practice sober deal my senior year and as one of the captains this did not pan out too well, but ehhh senior year...shoot me. With all these other rules, I tend to agree with all of them, but once again...no matter what you do, they will ALL be broken at some point..I would break rules myself often, and its hard sometimes not to get caught up in the fun of it all to realize that you are wasting substantial amounts of time, but the most important thing to try and get through to your team is that if you are distracted, "dicking" around during practice , or drunk...you are wasting EVERYONES timee, not just your own.

p.s. nothing wrong with being hungover....using it as an excuse...thats pussy.

def agree w/ waldo here...

As for the yelling...I never understood that...Yelling at your team makes them lose respect for you.

When your team isn't on track and people are goofing off, the best approach is to show them that you're disappointed, not angry...it is far more effective.

i agree with waleeeeeeeed 100%. it's all about respect and responsibility... everyone has work to do, studying to do, etc.. so respecting everyone's time is so important...

i don't know if having a written set of rules would be so effective because sometimes things do come up and you don't have control of that... also, when you are at practice with all your friends, i feel like the "rules" kind of take a back seat because you are w/ your friends and it's a way to hang out w/ them.. not always the best thing when there should be structure to practices.

man one thing for coaches....you can't be best of friends with the people you teach, because then they won't take you serious...I don't know if other coaches feel that way..that when its time for practice a coach should be hard and not fool around, but outside practice doesn't matter

I think that when you are a group of friends on a bhangra team, its also has a lot to do with your mindset and maturity level as well. You can be acting fools outside of bhangra on your own time partying or whatever, but once you walk through the doors to your practice venue, everyone should have their game faces on. You make a commitment to be on a team so show it. All of us are best friends where many have grown up together, yet we get down to business when it comes to practice. It is all about having fun, but some formality should be there... just my two cents

One major thing people need to understand when they come to practice... is that you hang up ur friendship at the door and pick it back up when you leave practice. Captains/Coachs have to be hard on the team and have to push the team to its limits and team members need to understand that when a captain tells you to fix a move or change the way you do it, they are doing it to help you personally get better and also to make the team better, not because "they hate you, or because of ur friendship"
