hey guys so i want to share a movie with someone and i know the best way to do this is by uploading the movie to a server and then sharing the download link with whoever i want to share the movie with (something along those lines)- however i have no idea how to do this lol. :-[ can someone please guide me as to what exactly i have to do step by step, A to Jed.. or at least point me in the direction of any other source which will break it down for me in the simplest way (i.e. a simple article, or video tutorial)??

i would greatly appreciate the help! thanksss :)

btw, the movie itself is 700MB, the folder is 710MB

Well the best way used to be through Megaupload, but since that is down thats not an option.

You could use mediafire. But you will have to spilt the video in to different parts
1)Download and Install 7Zip
2) Right click movie, and click on "Add to Archive"

3) Split it into volumes (around 100-200MB) should be fine.
3) Upload all the files (depending on the split there should be around 7-4 files)
4) Give all the link to friend, make sure he has 7zip installed and has all the files downloaded.
5)Extract and enjoy

The above mentioned method would probably be one of the only options right now if it weren't for cloud services....

Private message me your email address so I can send you an invite to Dropbox. It lets you store 2 GB of content for free, and you can buy more space if you felt you needed it in the future. But if you let me refer you I think that will get us both an extra 250 mb, so you should be able to start off with 2.25 GB, which is plenty of space.

Dropbox is simple to use, you create an account and upload the file to their server, and then you can create a public link and whoever has that link can download the file.

Here are instructions how to create a public link with Dropbox, it's really easy:

Google Drive has a size limit as well, its 5 GB. And google drive is only available to those that have a gmail account. Also there is no iOS google drive app available yet, but there is one for Dropbox.

i think the OPs problem, if it hasn't been solved yet, is not the upper cap on the storage space, but the amount that can be uploaded at one time. this is typically much less.

splitting into parts is not that problematic for the end recipient as long as he/she has 7zip or the unarchiver, for PC and mac respectively. well-known unzipping programs, like those, are good about putting together parts during unzipping. just tell the recipient to save all the parts in the same folder.

one last thing: 4shared.com is a relatively unused sharing site that's absolutely amazing about uploading large size files. 2 GB is allowed per file. the thing is, you can no longer download a file uploaded by another user directly without paying, so i recommend you set up a new account, upload the movie, and then give the recipient the login/pass so he or she can login as the account holder and download the huge file.
