Once again Punjabi Spirit rang loud and clear in our city this weekend. We are left amazed by the team performances, inspired by this year's Punjabi Spirit Honouree Fauja Singh, and infinitely grateful to our team of Jashaners. After this weekend we all know - Impossible is Nothing.

Congratulations to this year's placing teams:

1st Place: Shan E Punjab Arts Club
2nd Place: Bhangra Empire
3rd Place: BC Cultural

Punjabi Spirit: Kauran Di Taur
Best Dressed: Surrey Folk Bhangra Club

For us, Jashan serves to:

1. Foster community spirit.
2. Engage youth with Punjabi culture and encourage them to move in a positive direction.
3. Elevate Bhangra to a level of class that it deserves.
4. Showcase Punjabi talent to mainstream audiences.

To each one of this year's participants: we thank you for playing a role in our attempt to achieve these goals. We hope you enjoyed your stay in Calgary and have taken some great memories back with you.

Your talent has left us all in awe!

We miss you already...Calgary loves ya.

Thank you.

AWESOME COMPETITION

* Weekend ran on schedule
* Beautiful hotel, nice city, nice venue
* All the volunteers on the committee took their jobs seriously, knew what was going on, and took pride in the show. Liasons were really helpful and cool
* All teams were provided practice space and a boombox
* Audience was packed. Really fun performing in front of such a crowd
* Afterparty at a nice club right across the street from hotel

Teams were treated extremely well - from custom cookies to water bottles to sending me a taxi to get to the airport for my morning flight and then making sure I got there on time and everything

-- No comments on judging or placings
-- Mixer was kind of long, and maybe have a more simple ice breaker next time

I danced here and wow this was by far the best Bhangra competition I have ever been to. I have never been to a competition that was this organized. The Jashan committee members were extremely friendly and made us want to be there. Our liaison, Gagan, was awesome and went out of his way to make sure our needs were met. He was really helpful and always made sure we were having a good time. If we had any questions, he would be there faster than a speeding bullet to answer them.

Also, something that I feel that is worth mentioning is how the Jashan crew had set up a special room for teams from which they could get snacks and refreshments. It was open 24 hours so teams could go there whenever they wanted.

Moreover, the after-party was for teams only and was at a great venue. There were no fights and it was a lot of fun. We had an awesome time there.

Overall the placings were legit and the teams that deserved to place had placed. I completely agree with the results and couldn't be happier. I had a great time here and I recommend all other teams to apply here next year!

No Jashan, Thank YOU!

This being our second year coming to Jashan we were expecting the amazing hospitality Jashan has come to be known for, and we surely weren`t dissapointed. The commitee thought of everything and got every little detail right.

-The hotel was amazing and all of the teams were together in one tower so complaints would be kept to a low.
-There was a special room in the hotel where you could grab snacks and see some of the organizers
- Once we got there, we were given booklets containing info for practice times, contact numbers of organizers, nearby restaurants etc.
-Mixer ran on time and was well organized as it was close to the hotel and was at a great venue (only down side was that it was during the canucks game and they couldn`t show it :p )
-We got practice time after the mixer in small rooms in the hotel
- Tech time was on time for the most part and went smoothly for us
- The show itslef was on time and to the point with just bhangra team performances
- The venue which was very big, was packed and made for a great crowd
- The trophies themselves were actually original (most trophies look the same, even from other sports)
- GTV was there
- The afterparty, which ran very smoothly, was right infront of the hotel, which was a great convinience.

Once again Jashan has proved itself as arguably the most well organized bhangra competition in North America.

Jashan 2011 certainly took care of the teams and for second year in a row, they didn't disappoint organizing this competition. Thanks to Tony, Sarb, judges' liason Samy and my right hand man Gurjeet Panesar for taking such good care of us throughout the weekend.

I would highly recommend all the teams to apply for future Jashan Competitions. Congrats to all the teams that competed at this competition to showcase their talent. I was highly impressed with performances by Shan-E-Punjab (Surrey) and Bhangra Empire as they followed the judging rubric and executed their routines well.

One recommendation to the Jashan Committee would be streamlining the judging rubric for future competitions to make life easier for the teams and judges. Another option would be going with delibration method of picking the top 4-5 teams based on points from each judge before making the decision on top 3 teams.

If any team captains have any questions or concerns as to how the competition was judged, feel free to contact me anytime. Shoutouts to ABC, Duniya Girls, AVA Girls and many more teams whom I spoke to at the afterparty and hopefully we all can focus on the feedback provided by the judges.
