The american military industrial complex is so intertwined with our leaders that the lines are completely blurred. The same is true with AIPAC and big business (especially oil and big banks). To call this country a democracy is nieve at best. Johnny Adams said it best in the federalist papers when he warned against the influence of special interest groups in our government. Everyone loves to talk about out founders when it's convenient for them, but when it comes to what they really preached, no one cares. It's the same with religion and any other institution that can be used to gain power. There is a reason why we have been in a losing war for 10 years in Afghanistan with no REAL end in sight. The fat cats keep getting richer, and the average american gets poorer, but who cares, they don't have enough money to pay the politicians! America is not far off from a third-world country's government. Special interest groups are bribers, and our government takes those bribes with open arms. Hence, why campaign finance reform is a non-starter on both sides of the aisle.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people.

This is, I repeat, the best way of life to be found on the road the world has been taking. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron. ... Is there no other way the world may live?"

Five-Star General Dwight D. Eisenhower
