The Bhangra Team (TBT) at BBC 2005

in light of all the "where will bhangra be in x amt of yrs" talks i thought this was a somewhat relevant vid to post. some of u older guys will remember when tbt came on the scene, and the explosion/excitement they stirred up (especially over their 'band'). analogous to kj and "traditional" bhangra, in my opinion TBT made live bhangra mainstream and competitive (regardless of the live squads that existed in canada/cali).. even though theyre sets were not "traditional" by india standards as evidenced by their choreo/boliyan.

Ohhhhhh man...TBT was ill! I definitely agree with you Vijay that this performance was indeed the real start of this whole Modern vs. Traditional business

I remember seeing them at Bruin 2006 and they had a dancer climb up a standing-sitting tower (2.5 man?) which IMO is harder to balance w/o help than any other stunt. Does anyone have that video? Harjot, was there ever a GTV video of that performance?

We can't forget UNITED Bhangra. That epic sarangi and the Mickey Mouse/Disneyland Boli...classic.

Shout out to Joey Zuniga on TBT! One of the best dancers I've seen on the circuit. It was a pleasure to have the chance dance with him.

United Bhangra is honestly my favorite live team.

Sarangi + Inder Khooner = Amazing

IMO, United Bhangra was one of the first modern live bhangra team. Wish they would come back :(

IF TBT performed today, and were clean, they would win any competition...

I think TBT did a lot to introduce live/folk/whatever you wish to call it into the scene in 2005 and 2006, but I don't think they'd necessarily clean up in 2012-3. The expectations across the board are higher than they were. TBT did a great job, especially in their first live performances, to use melodies and songs that many of us grew up with, causing a huge nostalgia rush, and helped you enjoy the performance.

Word! I would LOVE to see a proper come-back! I think the last they performed was at VIBC 2008?

[/size]That's the key. If the audience can relate and you win them over, you can always win. TBT's funky live style would set them eons away from any of the teams on the circuit today.
