Things about gigs that you like/don't like

After doing a bunch of gigs recently I was discussing things that are awesome about gigs with my guys, like how you can try things out with a mix and have a lot of fun with Nakhra to random aunties 8). But then we were talking about negatives, one thing that sucks when doing a gig is not being able to dance for the whole crowd, and having to dance for the bride and groom alone for example. We have adjusted formations to make it work out but it just isn't the same when the crowd is to the left and/or to the right of you. What else do people like/dislike about them ?

When the tables are organized diagonally from the wooden dance floor. So formations are set to a diamond stage rather than a square or rectangle.

We always ask that the bride and groom move to a location where we can face everyone. When tables are to left and right, we just face that way when we are on that side of the stage.

Dislikes:

- when a crowd just doesn't respond to anything you do
- Entertainment schedule gets delayed by 45 + Mins (we got delayed by 2 hours once...)
- DJ's messing with your mix
- Stage/dancing area is way smaller/bigger than what was told

Likes:

- Interacting with the crowd (lalkarey with uncles, nakrah with the ladies, we even had a dancer squeeze a little kid's cheek once. He decided to come onto the stage and sit lol)
- Mixing up the team jodis

1. Good Dj system (sound)
2. sick lighting
3. giant dance floor
4. audience are loving the performance
5. drunk uncles throwing loads of cash
6. drunk uncles tryna dance during the performance
7. drunk uncles smiling so hard cuz you are reminding them of their gabroo jawan days
8. people who insist you stay and drink and eat and party with the family
9. gigs that give you your own room

Dislike
1. GIGS NOT STARTING ON TIME (even when you put stuff in the contract)
2. Diamond dance floor
3. small dance floor
4. crappy dj system
5. gigs that make you ponder why they wanted a bhangra team in the first place because everyone in the audience is completely disinterested. and they all look at you like you shouldnt be there/ performing when everyone is eating. i think thats dumb, why get a bhangra team to perform when everyone is eating SO WACK.

LIKE: When your with the dj all day so you get free food, drinks etc..., gig isn`t in some rundown area where the banquet hall used to be some factory, when you`re called to do an entrance at a really beautiful location, When you get lots of tips...and when the client pays you more than what you charge.

DISLIKE:when your playing dhol to music when dance floor is open and this uncle is whipping $100`s at your dhol and putting them between the ropes, your all happy and shit, then the uncle says "oh yeah btw that was the pay" -.- ffs ...( pay for you and the dj )another is these broke ass couples trying to pay you with a cheque that you know is gonna bounce...no thanks cash only, these broke ass couples who say we`re previous clients can we have a discount...haven`t seen you before unless you got a divorce or for some birthday party or something, some stupid little bastard comes up and starts playing my dhol on the wrong sides with the wrong sticks...drunk uncs putting their arms around you while playing dhol and almost making you fall, these hijabi aunties ( always hijabi aunties for some reason ) trying to rush past you during the entrance and bump into your dhol and fuck up your beat, when a drunk unc says " oye dholia ajj din khushian da dhol te Bajaa ".

Idk if someone said this but when teams don't wear the uniforms it just doesn't feel the same to me, I mean i know teams usually do that when they know the person of the party but just sayinn just doesn't look as exciting

As a dholi this is awesome! lol and when the crowd really gets into every beat and not just giddha and standard chaal, because I love to do crazy jhoomer variations and whatnot.

dislike: when uncles, aunties, and sometimes babies start walking onto the stage and no one feels the need to stop them before you accidentally kick them in the face. when there isn't any tandoori shrimp.

LOL!...have a designated person to keep and eye on the money and collect it. it looks better than having the dancers stick around and collect the cash.

Or those damned little kids that are just sitting or standing by the stage ready to pounce on the cash. Right when one dancer leaves the stage they all rush in and take your well earned tips and there's nothing we can do about it. Parents don't stop them and we can't go around yelling "GIVE US OUR MONEY" at the youngins.
