if any original content of a song published and copyrighted is used in your remix, as in taking a song and just putting a beat ontop of it, you need to contact the original recording copyright company and receive clearance from them. The only way you can get around that is making a "cover-mix" which is basically recording the entire song (beats, vocals and all) by yourself and putting it together, that to you have to give credit to the writters of the lyrics and other honorable mentions as well. You can do it illegally, to be honest i see mixtapes and stuff like that being sold daily so i don't see why not but if you get caught you are technically breaking the law and you can get in trouble.

proper idea! but making a mixtape isn't that easy.. aside from good taste, organization, time management and a talented roster.. it takes a vision, a vision that everyone working on the mixtape needs to thoroughly understand so that the overall product (even if its just for fun) doesn't lack flow or sound uneven, like its been put together in 3 days
all that aside, im down to pitch in a few minutes of work, but I much rather take that list you have in post 1, divide it into teams of 2 and do a little 2v2 mixing tourney for pride
that is if everyone is down.. competitive mixing is way more exciting than just mixing for listening pleasure, and since its a 2 man job per mix.. the tournament won't be longer than a month

pick a set number of DJ's (Ex. 10 man mix), let people cast names in for a ballot for like 2 days (whcih kind of has already happened on this thread), and create a poll with all the names mentioned in that time period and let BTF vote for who they want to hear. If you keep tacking on more names, this will become logistically impossible. And if someone turns it down cause theyre too busy, just pick up the next name. Set a feasible deadline (a month or two seems decent), And the majority of names i've seen listed already have a substantial amount of work already on the website, so if you don't know who someone is, you can just search.
If youw ant to make this a physical mixtape, once you have the 10, pick a rough time limit per dj (i'd say maybe 2 mins), and have each person responsible for their own transition into their segment. Example, if Harman and i were put one after another, I'll talk to him about how he is ending his piece, and work on transitioning into mine. Then if Swi is after me, he'll communicate with me for his transition. Very first person is responsible for the Intro, last person responsible for the ending. Done and Done. Even the order can be voted on.
EDIT: Harman makes a good point. Vision is important if you're tryign to make a consistent product. As an example, I think if you put say a mix by Sargam, then me, then Rajbir, it's going to sound COMPLETELY different with each DJ. but that can be the point too. so long as transitions are consistent itll be okay. Oh, and a battle works too.
Will it be a popularity contest? of course. but who cares, thats the point. By the People, For the People.
