I think it would be more fair to make comments about them based on a actual competition performance, and not a aundi performance. But here is my favourite by them. Personally I think this set could easily take out the majority of guys teams competiting today, not b/c they are girls but simply b/c the set is better and energry is outta the roof, at the 6 min mark their energy is the same as it was at the 1 min mark:p

Wow! I guess I must have missed this performance! The heart formation was awesome!!

I envy these girls! I wish I had the stamina and grace to pull of their performances! Def all-stars in my book!

aight so i have never really watched girls teams do bhangra and this is prolly one of the first times i actually sat down to watch one of em. i personally wasnt getting enough "umph" from all the moves, especially since these girls were doing them very femininely. with a guys team, u feel the power and the sheer energy of the performance, but with a girls performance, it feels way too delicate and, at times, too forced. what i define as "forced" i can clarify as stepping beyond one's level of composure and causing oneself to appear awkward due to excessive energy.

i wasnt feeling the choreo in certain places. the jhummar was interesting in its layout, but it was executed very poorly. iono what made it so awkward, maybe the short sleeves?, but it was way over the top forced. hkiran, there is def no way this routine would beat better guys teams, or even coed teams. VCU's Burgh performance of the same year would have killed this routine hands down.

Im not saying that UBC Girls could beat guys teams or co-ed teams im saying they fully have.

United
Duniya
Vcu
KJ
DRP
VIBE

Now yes we can sit here for the rest of our lives arguing over the fact of them winning or not etc etc.. But it doesnt matter they got 7 first place and 5 second place trophies outta the 14 total. I dont know many teams who can say that. And yes some teams only compete once or twice a year but thats beside the point.

I love the UBC girls and have a lot of respect for them! I think they've done a lot for females in the bhangra scene.

I feel like stepping beyond is taking a risk, and not all teams have the courage to do so. So again props to them.

As far as a previous argument goes about their style of bhangra being too manly, they're just trying execute bhangra properly. One could argue that male teams that do Giddah make it too feminine, therefore disrespecting their culture.

OJ, that's why there is Malwai Giddha for men! ;D

Bhangra girls all just need to go create their own form of bhangra! haha, don't kill me, only jokes! :D
