Hi everyone,

We have a couple things coming to you from BTF.

First and foremost, we have a new Registration/User Agreement that the mods and I have been working on. There is nothing revolutionary here; to be fair, we wanted to put all the rules out in writing. Section I refers to rules, Section II to guidelines. When registering, new users will see it when they are picking their usernames. For those 650 of us who are already members, please see the bottom of this post.

Secondly, I've received the feedback on the focus of posts and topics, the discussion started by Jeeti. I'll be contemplating this in the next week on how we can improve the BTF user experience so that everyone is comfortable using the site and contributing.

Lastly, with Groundshaker 2 this past weekend, welcome to the start of the Bhangra Season! Here we go!

Section I: General Rules and Agreement

By registering with or participating on Bhangra Teams' Forums (BTF), you agree to the following code of conduct. If you are unable to agree you have the right not to participate in forum discussions at any time. This Agreement or any policy on BhangraTeamsForum.com may change with no advance notice, and the BTF Team will make reasonable efforts to notify active members.

While the administrators and moderators of this forum will attempt to remove or edit any objectionable material as quickly as possible when applicable, it is impossible to review every message and attachment posted to BhangraTeamsForum.com.

Therefore, you acknowledge that all posts made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author and not of BTF or its administrators and moderators (except for posts made by these people), and they will not be held liable.
You agree not to post any material which is false, defamatory, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law. Doing any of these may lead to you being suspended for a specific time period or permanently banned from these forums. Depending on the severity of the offense, moderators may choose to ?warn?, ?suspend?, or ?ban? the offender. All matters regarding suspensions and bans are at the discretion of the administrators and moderators, and all decisions are final.

The IP addresses of all posts are recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that the administrators and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, censor, move, or lock any post or topic/thread that they deem transgresses the below guidelines.
Be respectful of all users at all times. Please use proper etiquette and courtesy. Treat people with respect and kindness. If you do this, the rest of the code of conduct will not need more than a cursory mention.

1. Respect the forum administrators and moderators. We provide a service in our free time while also maintaining a full time work/school schedule to keep BTF running efficiently. We do edit the forums for content and rulings are final; if you have a complaint, please private message us with it.

2. Profanity: Remember that the forums are used by people of all age groups and of all tolerance levels regarding profanity usage. Mild profanity/swearing is allowed in the context of general speech. Explicit profanity or swearing is not allowed, and will we not allow any profanity to be directed toward another person.

3. Forum Threads and Flaming:
? Flaming and condescending messages: Flames are messages that personally attack, call people names, or otherwise harass another forum member (or any person). These, along with any generally condescending posts will be removed at the moderators discretion.
? If the thread is flame-bait (appears to be intended to start an argument or is likely to cause an argument rather than enhance discussion), it may be locked or removed without notice. Individual flame-bait may be deleted or edited at the moderators' discretion. Any users who continue to post in this manner or engage in other questionable practices, like trolling (posting in an attempt to engage people in arguments) may be subject to more serious sanctions.
? If the thread turns into an argument, it may be locked or removed.

4. If a post or thread contains spam (unsolicited advertising) or solicitation, it will be deleted and the poster may be banned. Active users in good standing are allowed to have discreet links to personal sites in their signatures, in their profile, and may post them in threads on occasion. Persistent usage of commercial/advertising banner images in posts or signatures is not allowed.

5. Spam, continued: Posts and topic starters that are gibberish, lacking content, or appear to be simply an effort to increase post count harm the forum. They make the forum harder to follow for users, and make moderators? lives difficult. They will be deleted at the discretion of the moderators (often it is a string of posts, rather than one, that will trigger this offense).

6. Adult Content/Violence/Illegal Activity: Messages containing sexually oriented/violent/illegal dialogue, images, content, or links to these things will be deleted. Messages with links to or suggesting illegal activity will also be deleted. Posting or linking to any of these may result in suspension or banning.

7. Thread Drifting/Steering: Please keep discussions on topic. Moderators reserve the right to split a thread or delete parts to guide the discussion based on original intent.

8. Forum signatures are not a place for inappropriate material such as attacks, slander, harassment, political or religious remarks.

9. Users should only have one account. If you feel you have justification for requiring a new account, please contact an administrator to discuss your situation. Users who have multiple accounts without approval of an administrator may be subjected to suspensions or bans without notice.
10. Please strive to communicate with other users as effectively as possible:
? When writing a post, please space paragraphs with a blank line in between them for better readability.
? Please do not write posts/titles in all uppercase letters, as it looks as if you are screaming at the people reading your post and makes titles harder to read.
? Please use color and font properties for highlighting portions of your text, and not for all of the text in your post.
? Please do not cross post, or post the same thing in multiple locations.

11. Intellectual Property and BhangraTeamsForum.com: We will respect any and all valid copyrights or other indications of ownership of material given to us by IP owners. If you do not own the copyright to the media or have express permission from the artist, do not post it on BhangraTeamsForum.com. We do not monitor every bit uploaded to BTF. In accordance with the DMCA and Section 230 of the CDA, if a valid complaint is filed with the site administrator, we will remove the offending material immediately. Please direct notices to malkana [at] gmail [dot] com.

You remain solely responsible for the content of your posted messages. Furthermore, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the owners of this forum, any related websites to this forum, its staff, and its subsidiaries. The owners of this forum also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or any other related information collected on this service) in the event of a formal complaint or legal action arising from any situation caused by your use of this forum.
Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from this forum or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the event of a major violation of this agreement.
Also note that the software places a cookie, a text file containing bits of information in your browser's cache.

Section II - Bhangra Questions Policies
When asking bhangra questions:
1. There are no ?stupid? questions. No one was born with all the information on bhangra; we all started somewhere. Feel free to ask whatever question you like, assuming you already tried:
2. Searching BhangraTeamsForum.com: every page on BTF has a search box in the upper-right hand corner. Many topics have been covered in the tens of thousands of posts on BTF. Please use the Search feature to find the answer to your question/request, there?s a good chance it?s already been covered.
3. Try to give information in the title of your post. Instead of using a title like "Song Question," use a title that is specific, such as, "Song question from [Team] at [Event]." A clear title will attract more views to your thread, as it gives a clear indication of the content of the post to the people that are willing to help you. Ultimately this will allow you to get more help of a better quality.

When answering bhangra questions:
4. Be considerate to the person asking the question. We were all a new at one point. Some people are harder to help than others, but please be respectful to all users.

5. If the person's question has been covered in one of the community documents, please give them a description and the links. You can also show the user how to search the forums or tell them about the forum search utility. If you wish to remind a user to use search tools or other resources when they have asked a question you feel is basic or common, please be polite.

BTF Staff
Moderators and other staff for BhangraTeamsForum.com put a good amount of their time and energy into this forum without any monetary return. Please respect them and their decisions.
Staff are chosen by the site administrators and moderators. Many factors go into staff selection, including showing a consistently respectful and kind demeanor, and level-headedness in discussion.

General
It should be noted that, like all things, this code of conduct will continue to change and evolve with constructive feedback from users and from experience. It is our hope that these policies will create open, honest, and civil discussion. As always, we welcome feedback about any concerns that you may have.

Having been posted at the top of the forum for the past 15 days, I am setting this to "non-sticky" and letting it descend the forum ladder as normal.
