USC

Ugh every co-worker and friend of mine is rubbing this in my face, I'm praying that the NCAA committee realizes that banning USC from bowls = crappy TV ratings. We're supposed to have a sick offensive class this year too </3

My problem is that the real offenders here aren't being punished. It's not fair for Kiffin to eat Carrol's indiscretions whether or not Kiffin had knowledge of this kind of recruiting while there...

AND the players themselves..they had nothing to do with this? Now they won't be able to get the kind of exposure that the actual offenders got before they peaced out.

As far as I'm concerned...its bs.

Disclaimer- not a USC fan...just feel bad for those kids.

Yeah, thats what kinda pisses me off about the whole thing, it was something specific to a group of people (Reggie & Benedict Arnold oops I mean Pete Carroll) yet Kiffin's team is being punished. It wasn't like USC was giving everyone benefits and cheating during the recruiting process (at least not that we know of). I'm sure a lot of the big schools are guilty of these kinds of infractions, its the risk you take to stay on top

Looks like Pete Carroll peaced out just in time. This is going to cripple the program: two-year postseason ban, forfeit of wins, and scholarship reduction. They're not getting any recruits anytime soon...

Agreed, although I don't think it's going to hurt ratings as much as you are believing. I know you USC dear to your heart, but out here on the east coast, we look at the rest of the 24 teams too... :D

They will get recruits no matter what. My younger brother's best friend committed there a couple of weeks ago and they told him that this might happen and it didn't deter him. There might be a few commits that leave and some from lack of scholarships but the perks of being a USC football player cannot be understated. USC will probably appeal this decision and maybe get it cut in half.

USC will have exposure even with all the sanctions....Carroll built a powerhouse program there...What would happen if USC goes on to lose only 1 or 2 games? What if they go undefeated? You don't think they will get the exposure even though they wont be in a bowl game?

Freshman recruit comes in.....redshirts his first year, plays the 2nd year and by the 3rd year they have a chance to get to a bowl game while still having 2 years left.....Now, ofcourse the all-state recruit will be offered a beautifull condo with breath taking views, while living in L.A., playing football at USC. USC is to good to pass up, even now.....

True, Gifty. This might actually be a blessing in disguise. USC can play its younger players with more frequency to get them used to the speed and physicality of the game, so when it "counts" for bowls in the 3rd year, they're experienced and ready to go. This 2 year period allows USC to develop its talent w/o repercussions- they can play their freshmen/2nd or 3rd stringers in pressure situations against 1st stringers and not worry about losing a BCS bid

With the forfeitures of scholarships and the sanctions..add that to the fact that Pac-10 is expanding..and you have a recipe for disaster..

if you think that kids will still go to USC without a scholarship guarantee..just cuz its a "powerhouse" school...you are mistaken...you think top recruits are gonna pay their tuition just so they can play at USC? Come on now..if nothing else..those scholarship forfeitures will cost them many of the top class recruits they are used to. Maybe the players that are already there will be able to hold the program up but as far as the future of the program, I think it will take more than a few years to get it back to where it was.

Just wait..till we can compare USC recruiting class post-sanction versus some of the other major programs..it will be nothing like before. My bottom line is USC even being USC will be passed up for other school and will be hurt by these sanctions.

the scholarship cuts hurt the 3 star prospects more than the 4 star ones. the 3 star dudes who are recruited for depth might leave but there are still plenty of scholarships for the top of the class guys. the main perk that USC sells their recruits is the pedigree and success of USC players in the next level and that wont be diminished.
