Hello Everyone! My name is Sharonjit, I am the coach of VTPD who just competed at Notorious Bhangra 2012. Some of you have known me in the circuit for a while. In California, I know it might seem like there are tons of teams and even more dancers, but if you really think about it there is only a handful of guy teams and coed teams, 1 all girl live team, and maybe 1 or 2 all girl music teams (ACTIVE). So I decided I want to share VTPD with the rest of California. It has and always be an all girl music team, but I want to open it up to any and all female dancers from Norcal to Socal. I know there’s always competitions in california and not everyone has a team to compete on so were stuck watching the show and wishing we were on stage, and I want VTPD to be that outlet. I always enjoyed doing gigs and getting random dancers from all different types of teams together even if it was just for one performance. Because were all friends here and the only thing more fun than rooting for your friends team on stage is to dance along side them. I know the concept isn’t the easiest thing to understand but I was initially inspired by ESA and Harkiran Khullar, but I would want it to be something that would continue on passed on or two competitions. That any group of females could pick up and use for a competition in California.

My goal is to just have fun and dance with friends. So this team is for those who aren’t quite done competing yet. I don’t care much for placings or getting paid for a million and one gigs. I just wanna use this team and the vardiyan we have sitting around as an opportunity to spread more unity. It’s a very vague idea but it’s one I felt would be worth sharing with everyone. So here are some of the details: The team was originally based in Fresno which is luckily right in the middle of socal and norcal, but choreo can/will be taught via video. There will be 8 dancers per competition (only have an 8 set of vardiyan), and props and vardiyan are already taken care of.

If anyone would like to add to this idea or join in, by all means, please feel free to pm me here or message me via facebook if you have one. I would appreciate any incite that would help make this possible. Thanks!

Cool idea, Sharonjit. I think there are a lot of dancers out there who'd be really interested in something like this, especially people who competed at a collegiate level but don't quite have the time to put towards a conventional team's rehearsals (for whatever reason).

In short, if someone was doing something like this as a coed team or all-boys in the midwest, I'd be down.
