Virsa Jr. Competition team request

As most of you know there is a Virsa jrs competition held in california. I just talked to the organizers regarded a split catagory competition. We requested a club and high school catagory. They said that if we could find 4-5 more high school teams then they would be willing to split it. Now our problem is that we arent too familiar with teams in california that arent club teams. Even anywhere else out of state. This is a great opportunity for any high school teams that want to compete with other high school teams so its a bit more even. I hope some teams will come forward and apply. Thanks

btw, just wondering... What would be the benefit in seperating the two?
Styles arent exactly different, like live and music, or giddah and bhangra...

well the club teams usually (not always) have better practice facilities, top notch coaches and others, people with a lot of time to dedicate to bhangra, etc.

Sup gurvir

We did this coMp last year and one category is pretty efficient, not many hs teams have funds, and idk about your area but high schools down here have little to no bhangra heads, every teAm is independent

I say don't even give it too much head, just show up, rip it up, and hAve fun, I'm sure you guys will have a blast in LA (or Reseda)

yeah i think u would be in the club catagory..high school teams are teams that are independant and arent through an acadamy or club.

This comp was really great, honestly. The coordinators ran it very well. You should definitely think about doing.

Hey, well in BC were having the BC Highschool Bhangra Competition in the first week of April as well. That's just strictly highschools; hence the name. :) I'm one of the organizers so you could pass on some info to me, and I could get in touch with some highschools here, because majority of the ones in BC are registering for our competition. So we could easily pass info to those non btf users.

However, you might want to take into consideration that VIBC did a VIBC Next competition; which was all junior teams and they had split it into two different categories as well. They had the highschool teams perform first and then the academies, however they just had the issue of not getting enough highschools and they only had 3. Also, just like Danny said; take funding into consideration because they are all highschool students. Also, some of them have not competed before, let alone performed on stage other than in front of their school. So when you split the categories you might need to change judging criteria a bit, because highschool teams tend to have more modern aspects.

Hello fellow Bhangra Lovers... My name is Manisha and I am one of the coordinators for the Virsa Junior Bhangra. I did talk to a few of you guys earlier but just to clarify, Virsa Junior Bhangra Competition will be held on May 2, 2009 at the Santa Monica High School. If you want a registration packet please email me at virsajuniorbhangra@yahoo.com and I will get that forwarded to you ASAP. The website will be up soon with all the current details.

As to splitting the category into 2, it seems harder and not efficient for the purpose of our competition. From last year's experience I could tell you that the general category fitted all the teams and everyone was very well satisfied.
