I'm not sure if this makes sense...but I think the reason that there isn't a problem with Scary Movie or Meet The Spartans is because that it isn't going across industries...even though the business of making movies is the same...The American film industry and the bollywood film industry are two very different entities...

Its just the American film industry making a statement...that this kind of stuff won't be tolerated...a bit of a power check. Also, some of the film companies that make Meet the Spartans and Date Movie are ultimately owned by the same companies that the movies are making fun of...

The name is definitely suspicious. I'm sure it was done on purpose to increase revenue. But from what I read about the movie synopsis, it doesn't seem like a Harry Potter knock-off at all. (Didn't Bollywood already do the Harry Potter knock-off?)

Essentially, Warner doesnt want this Mumbai based company to make money off of having a movie with a similar name. It makes sense.

This is pretty ridiculous. I have seen many bollywood movies that have the same scenarios as hollywood movies. I remember specifically a moved that has the exact same plot as BLUE STREAK with martin lawrence. Nobody got sued for that. This Hari Puttar movie is about a comedy of terrors. it is nothing along the lines of harry potter. at all.

I mean there are plenty of movie knock-off examples, especially in Bollywood. It's just a matter of picking your fights. Warner Bros. chose to pursue this, and they have every right to considering they own the rights to the film.

Off course Warner Bros. owns the rights to Harry Potter. But Hari Puttar is in no way violating those rights. Imsure if the movie's name was Hari Beta, or Hari Puthara, Warner wouldnt be whining right now.

I hope we're not going to start listing Bollywood movies that copied Hollywood movies. There are so many.

The sad thing is that I grew up watching Bollywood movies. I watched at least 25 Bollywood movies to every 1 Hollywood movie I saw, so I never realized the un-originality until like 4 years ago. I use to think Bollywood was so cool.
