 first reaction- O shooooot! Team from UK? Alright WBBC isn't a joke. Nice! Really turning into the most anticipated comp for next year. Just one thing though. So far both the matchups don't really include any rivals. If anything WBBC is creating the rivalries between the teams. O well can't wait!

I can't speak for the competition, but I wouldn't say the intention was to have these fierce rivalries where beef starts back up or whatever.

The idea seems to be, like J-skeet pointed out, that these are all stylistic match ups. Which will hopefully create some friendly rivalries, like the one i believe Cal and UNC has.
So a match up such as AEG v. Virsa or NYPD vs. Empire, which would be really fun to watch, doesn't necessarily make sense because the teams dance so differently.

It'd be like judging live vs. music on the same rubric for every match up (which still makes no sense to me, but for some reason continues to happen).
you want modern v. modern (MBT v. MSU)
co-ed vs. co-ed. (UNC v. Cal)
traditional modified vs. traditional modified (FS vs. GCC)
Canadian Toronto style vs. Canadian Toronto style ( NJ vs. SGPD)
and folk all guys (JJ vs. Virsa)
Girls vs. Girls (TAG vs. AVA)
and so on.

I think GCC matches up well with Furteelay and to have a team from the UK there is going to be amazing.

Congrats to both teams btw.
Excited to see what both teams bring.

this was very unexpected and refreshing match up. i've seen the furteelay guys dance at a few comps and they have great stage presence and style, they know how to entertain the crowd. so this match up is an open opportunity for GCC to show that UK bhangra can compete with elite US/canada teams, i hope they bring a solid set and give FS a good fight. my overall opinion so far of WBBC is that this is the competition bhangra needs, elite 8 tried to do something ground breaking and they partially succeeded but this format is so drastically different from everything before it, that i can't imagine it not being an incredibly entertaining comp. the coolest thing about it is whats been mentioned earlier, that this competition will highlight different styles, there is a lot of diversity in bhangra in terms of styles and this will showcase that diversity. i also like the way each matchup has its own pair of judges, i hope we get to learn more about how each match up will be judged and also how the over all judging will take place to decide the 1 winner. this comp can't really be about rivalries because honestly presently there just don't seem to be many real rivalries, it is about matching up similar teams, giving them a chance to analyze each others strengths and weakness and to tailor sets that are meant to show each teams true potential within their style. i personally think the teams are gonna have a lot of fun with this. the real winner in all this is the audience, we will get one hell of a show.

just a quick side clarification - MBT is really no longer a "modern" team....many traditional elements have been incorporated in the teams routine over the past two years.

Not to be rude but, Furteelay versus who?

I'm not too familiar with the UK circuit, but I don't think they are anyone to underestimate. I am pretty sure this is faysal's team ("Faysal" on BTF) , he seems to have been involved for a long time on the circuit, he probably has a few secrets up his sleeves.

Hey guys, firstly a big thank you to WBBC for the invite into something so big :) and a massive shoutout to the furteelay guys I've heard so many good things about them as a team. Our guys are all really looking forward to finally coming over to compete as it has been something we've wanted to do for a long time. I know the majority of people on the circuit right now won't know of us as yet but as smehta said we have been around as a team since 2009, but there were no competitions for independent teams until 2011. By the time we leave however, you won't be able to forget us ;) that's the goal anyway!

See you all in April

If you're choosing just based on stylistic similarities and teams that would match up well I think SGPD vs ABC would be sick. Both in my opinion have their own modern styles that are different from a lot of teams. SGPD vs NJ wouldve been great a few years ago when both had that fast Toronto style but based on their most recent performances their styles have changed too much to warrant a matchup

How do you know? Isn't that an obvious match-up and well so far, the match-ups have been pretty shocking and surprising. i wouldn't be surprised with no SGPD vs NJ. I would like to see SGPD vs NYPD.

Thats not deffinite tho it would be sick but Sgpd is more like Nypd or AG when Shane and Nj are sort of similar and there both arguably the best 2 teams in toronto..to me tho...Toronto just has the best bhangra scene period all the teams named r just real elite teams
