Lakha Badnaam Hui, Darling Tere Liye :-*

Feedback:

Not sure if you really did anything during the first 17 seconds of the mix. That was quite shocking to be honest. So for almost 1/5 of the mix, you're just playing the original song. I would not recommend this strategy as you go up against some of the heavy hitters in the ladder. I noticed you blended an English track, which was a good concept. I wish you would have repeated the "woah" sound at 0:22 a second time (maybe at around 0:26) because from 0:23-31, it sounded you didn't do anything at all. I loved the laser build effect used from 0:33-0:35; that was very well placed. I also love the background effects you threw in from 0:36-0:44. I especially like that right to left buzz sound effect from 0:45-0:47 - I would love to give you credit for that, but I just realized that's part of the original track! ;) I liked the subtle background effects you threw it from 0:48-0:53. I really enjoyed your outro/ending which started at 0:59. Very nicely done there sir.

Overall, I would have preferred if changed up the original track a lot more than you did. If your opponent would have submitted something with more "good" changes to the original track, I probably would have voted for his track. It just seems like a lack of time/effort might be the cause here. I would also work on trying to get the track to sound as loud/prominent as the original track. Listen to the mp3 Daman posted of the original track and then listen to your mix; you should notice a big difference in volume levels.

Keep it up! Look forward to what else you bring.

Firstly, I want to thank you Basim for spending time and actually writing out feedback that is very helpful to everyone! Secondly I want to point out that I did not spend ALOT of time with this track practically(meaning Mixing wise) just because of college and other assignments I had due. Conceptually I did go out and listen to the radio and decided that the song Right Now by Rihanna would have worked amazingly. Thus looking at the First :17 seconds of the Mix if you listen carefully I did have a flute playing from the right now song including a dhol. It just didnt get translated very well haha. Chalo Next time though, really glad you liked the mix. I hope to get better and bring some interesting stuff into the ladder!

Thanks Simran ;)

Hey Lakha, thanks for the follow-up and clarification. I definitely don't catch every single thing in mixes and this is one example where it didn't sound TO ME like anything was changed. Maybe others heard the flute addition, so apologies if my feedback isn't 100% spot on. I just write stuff as I listen to the mixes and I'm sure tons of people don't agree (including the DJ himself/herself) with everything I write because everyone views music differently :)

No need to apologize. Whatever feedback you provide is great Simran! You're basically an everyday/casual listener to bhangra music & mixes like the vast majority of people, so what you write means a lot to the DJ's who work to bring new ideas to the table. Keep it up!

nice concept lakha, you should definitely finish it up. This mix will need a lot of EQ though, a lot. The two songs are so different in their production it'll take work to meld them together. You should also cut up munni when transition from that song to right now. For instance at :30 when the build is coming and she goes 'chaal nawabi re' You could cut up the 're...' and repeat it to build into the electro production. This is a common technique in trance/house/whatever.

so you would repeat "re...re...re..re..rerererere" then cut to "le zandu balm hui" right before drop and go into chorus. Common, simple technique but it's super hype and will give it that remix feel rather than just layering tracks.

can't wait to hear it!
