Please vote on which mix you like better by posting in the thread below. There's no poll. You must have a minimum of 10 posts to vote. Voting ends at noon PST on Saturday!

This challenge is between 16. MohanSingh and 13. G-Tam. The challenge was to mix a Halloween song. The original song is Jaws theme.

Re: Week 6 - 16. MohanSingh vs. 13. G-Tam

I thought DJ 2 was going somewhere dope with chopping up the beat, thought that was a really creative idea. However I think the execution was lacking a bit cause the cuts were super choppy before the drop and then once the bhangra song dropped I barely heard it.

Really liked what DJ 1 did too, even if it was a bit more straight forward. The song choice was on point and the dhol really accentuated it.

Gonna go with DJ 1 on this one

DJ1, I liked the intro a lot. But I thought the mix fell flat when the vocals came in. It just didn't sound right. It really threw me off.
DJ2, I liked the intro but I thought it took a too long to get to the vocals. The chopped bits were really nice and I know you tried to incorporate it into the punjabi song, but it did feel as if it was not enough. So it didn't necessarily follow the theme, so to speak.

This wasn't an easy song to mix, so kudos to you both. The winner is the one with the smoother mix: DJ2.

My vote: DJ 2

Feedback:

DJ 1 - The first 16 seconds of your mix provided a great build up very well done. I agree with footballforlife that once the lyrics started, your mix fell apart. I like and appreciate the face that you at least tried to keep part of the Jaws theme in your mix throughout the song, not just use it for your intro and forget about it. What happened to your outro? Your mix just cuts off and as always, I hate that.

DJ 2 - You definitely took advantage of the short pauses in the Jaws theme for the first 17 seconds of your intro. While you didn't add/remove anything at the start, it worked for you because you changed things up later in your mix. My favorite part of your mix was from 0:17-0:32 (until the train horn). That chopped up segment really created some "hype" like something crazy & unique was about to happen. The train horn sound was a big "scary" sounded and played well into the theme. Unfortunately what happened to your mix when all the different voices and sounds came in, it just made things sound too chaotic. My ears hurt from it and from the lack of compression on the higher frequencies really made me NOT want to vote for you. I liked that brought back in the Jaws theme at 0:48 and then added a creative dubstep bass effect from 0:51-0:56 which also used the original song. Again, the vocals (high) overpowered too much of your mix, so be careful of that in the future. Unlike DJ 1, you actually had an outro and I gave you the win for thinking out of the box/using creativity.

Awesome job to both of these DJ's for really using their theme songs well.
