what do your parents say about bhangra practices most of the time?

Def. have to chalk it up to a million on the times my parents lectured me about doing bhangra (its a little worse because I'm black so they see
me dancing as pointless...) I just get lectured and compared to my other family members' kids...and pretty much everyone else in the world...
I just stopped telling them I do bhangra at all..instead just dodging their questions on the whole thing.. 8)
..Its even WORSE when I go to the gurdwara or if my Punjabi neighbors stop by..I get yelled at in punjabi , english, and kreyol (my parent's language-i'm haitian)
"Bhangra Vich Ki Rakeya" over and over..ugh...

parents lecture quite a bit before/after competitions...lol

before comps practices pick up quite a bit and are evry day...after comps parents think im still high off the weekend fun

for my case, as long as im doing pretty well in school and staying out of troulbe evrywhere else - bhangra isnt a problem...but theres def grade standards i have to meet lol

if practice is longer than 3 hours
my parents trip and tell me to go do sukhmani sahib in baba ji's room
and then send me to the garage to go do keertan for an hour

p.s.: i live in a really religious sikh home so my parents trip over anything not sikhi
like even basketball

Everytime im using my laptop, the 'rents automatically assume im watching bhangra performances rather than doing homework haha!!!

i get the whole sigh/eye roll from the mums every time i mention a competition

last month was the worst.."march madness" a comp every weekend for us... i still dont know how i pulled that off

and regarding practice..sometimes we go from 9pm-3am..coming home the next day is a death sentence waiting to happen

..but its all good memories in the end
