What does everybody use for their media player? Windows media sucks really badly. It is quite restrictive with media formats. VLC was working ok for me but I just found a new one called GOM. It was the most downloaded on download.com. Seems to work really well. Anybody know of anything better?

VLC plays aaaaanythign which is awesome. It's minimalistic and I use it for movies, video, etc.

I havent explored this space in a long time and I just throw songs into winamp :-\

real player does it all for music. The only better tool with itunes is that its also an organizer. but it doesn't play everything like real player does. GOM looks legit but it doesn't also work for mac  but doesn it play anything like VLC? If it doesn't then the cone takes the cake.

well, I wanted a media player that does it all. I used VLC for movies and windows media for music. Today when i was putting on a movie on VLC, I was having trouble with the fast forward/rewind buttons. Even dragging the little thing wouldnt work for me. I never really liked that feature on VLC anways. I guess thats what did it for me. Uninstalled VLC and got GOM. I think its a lot more user friendly than VLC. And when Im watching vids now, its easier to get to a specific time in the video (especially for bhangra vids so you dont re-watch 30 sec). Might sound trivial, but I like a good rewind/fast forward button. Not to mention a cool and sleek interface. Plays music really well too.

Music: Itunes
Video: Zoom Player

Zoom is uber sexy, in my opinion. Has enough functions for all my needs yet is simple enough to make it really easy to use. Has enough codecs to run pretty much everything.

I was ONCE a VLC convert...but now i've changed and I now use Media Player Classic. It of course does EVERYTHING that vlc can do, but its actually more stable. it takes little to no hit on the computer and it runs faster. I changed the settings to make it so that my video card does ALL the work, which takes the stress off the cpu. VLC doesn't allow for that feature, and that made for my recent switch.
for my current set up though, i have a lot of stuff going on. I have 2 video cards running (non-sli)...1 is running 2 22inch monitors while 1 is running a 40 inch lcd tv at 1080p (which is explains how i can play bluray rips on the screen without ANY sort of stress, the cpu doesn't do any work anymore when playing videos.

I go back and forth for music though between WMP and MPC (for the hell of it i guess).

real player has no use today beyond being a burden. They had a great monopoly on audio streaming in the 90s, but now...thankfully that's changed. embedded audio and easier streaming has made life amazing! i would highly suggest to leave real player and just go somewhere else...anywhere else

in response to the real player stuff:

im on a mac. i dont get ads or anything like that. since itunes doesnt play wma files, real player does so its my 'other music player'. itunes plays mp3, m4a, and wav files. idk what real does to you guys on windows but its real nice for mac users who dl music from btf which is 35% of the time wma.

when you are importing files into itunes
it asks you if you wanna convert the wma files into mp3
if you need a wma to mp3 converter
try this
http://www.wma-mp3.org/

why wouldnt you just convert everything to mp3? For me, especially when i get songs from pz10, they all come in WMA format. Right when i download it, i convert that bad boy. haha then again, I've got OCD with my music. have to be in alphabetical order and they all have to be the same format, etc. I could never have a song titled 4524903SHER_PUNJABI*#$&@#.Mp3 haha, ok i just went on a tangent there.
