So ya . . . I have few questions for the Bhangra world. It's just something that's been bugging me lately! :


1. What's wrong with tying "side turla" paggs for Bhangra Competitions or even at GIGS? ???


2. Why does RED jorri has to be the main jorri? Why can't it be any other color?

And ive noticed a lot of red joris are front joris so sice teams can have magic tricks and all this crazy stuff and crazy outfits then red dont need to be the front jori, some teams dont even have red in there vardiyaan. your totally right abt red jorri situation. if i ask people, why red is always the main color, they would just tell me "thats how it is from the start". but if anyone know why is "RED" the main jorri, please do let me know, i'm all ears!

N' abt the side turle wali pagg. It's jus people don't give much respect to side turle wali paggs...they think it's not good enough! No offense to front turle wali pagg! I'm glad that i have the talent to tie both the front n' side turle wali pagg!

I know a lot teams have performed with side turlas. Im not sure about at a comp but hey im sure its happend somewhere. As for having the red jori in the front some teams don't even get red colored vardis of they all have the same vardis so i really don't think it matters. Especially when your supposed to dance as a team. Do what you want man don't allow things to restrict your creativity.

hahaha ya, lets' jus hope we get an answer that really make sense! cos from what i been hearing, its jus BS! they're jus saying "oo they been doing that, so we have to do that too" . . . kar layo gall! :

Red, in my opinion, seems to be the main jori mainly to manipulate the viewers' eyes. Since red is a color that usually stands out far more than green, blue, etc., the main jori wears red so that the audience pays more attention to them; thus, it is most likely that the audience would be watching the best dancers for a good amount of the routine, and they would judge how the routine was based on the main jori compared to how the other joris did. I guess it's sort of like a bullfight in that the bull is attracted to the matador since the matador usually wears red. The viewers would be like the bull and matador would be like the dancers. I'm guessing maybe that's how it originated, but nowadays, it seems like in order to have a winning team, everyone on a team must dance at the same level, so in a way the idea might be a bit obsolete in a way, but it still is present in many teams/performances.

you probably have seen a bhangra team in the past but i haven't seen anyone compete at a bhangra comp. recently ( in the last 3 to 4 or even more) with side turle wali pagg!

"[t]he most emotionally intense color, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is also the color of love. Red clothing gets noticed and makes the wearer appear heavier." And according to http://psychology.about.com/od/sensationandperception/a/color_red.htm,
"Red is also considered an intense, or even angry, color that creates feelings of excitement or intensity."

LOL. yeah it is true about the bull theory and the fact that red incites anger or speed. Why do you think certain businesses sue the color red for their establishments? It promotes quickness, makes people wanna go fast.

i guess red is traditionally considered the "main" color, but on my teams red has usually never been the main color except maybe once. some teams like sgpd dont even really have a main jodi it seems, nj is similar in rotating dancers (seniors).

Chall yaar, tera answer vi apne kol rakh leynda aa but i'MMa ask an old judge, maybe he/she can give me an honest answer N' since RED has to be the main jorri at all time, isn't that disrespecting other colors/jorriyans? just curious! i guess rest of the colors r just there to waste time! lMAO :

Interesting topic...

With the turla, could it just be aesthetics? I mean when you look at a dancer make movements with his head, the front turla generally looks more pleasing from the audience's perspective because it appears to have a greater surface area from their point of view when watching from their seats (even though the surface area of the front and side turlas are probably about the same). Due to the audience's perception of the surface area of the turla, the front turla stands out more than a side turla would and makes the head movements seem more emphasized.

That's all I can come up with. Doesn't really seem like anything would be wrong with tying side turlas, just that it comes down to aesthetics and trendiness.
