Why is a girl coming out or girl reveal under a pagh a gimmick?

For me it comes off as 'oh wow a girl is doing bhangra like a guy'. I figured that we established that girls can dance as well as guys and vice versa and I'm not sure what the 'gimmick' is.

I think the fact that no one knowing she was a girl and going through the set and then revealing that she was a girl after the AG tall man gimmick was like a “WOW” factor to the audience and when the video is released you will see how loud the crowd was when she took her pagh off and revealed that she was a girl. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I understand fully what you are saying that “girls are just as good as guys” but from an entertainment factor it entertained the mass, from kids, parents and to others competing.

It's a gimmick because it's a "surprise", a "disguise" and a "misdirection" to a degree. Leading the audience (judges included) into believing on thing about the circumstances of a performance and then revealing those assumptions to be false in a pleasant manner. Adding the "Dancing just as well as the guys" part is part of the presentation of the "surprise" slash icing on the cake. But the latter isn't the basis of the gimmick, the "surprise" component is.

In my opinion, one of the most memorable bhangra gimmicks from back in 2011.

Such a superfluous definition of 'surprise', but I love it.
