Windy City Bhangra Competition is a for-youth-by-youth event, catered to the South Asian community, in an effort to celebrate Punjabi culture. At the competition, teams will showcase their talent and zest of the original folk dance of Punjab, Bhangra. The growing influence of Bhangra has captured the attention of second and third generation Punjabis worldwide, primarily in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada.
The WCB organizational team will be comprised of individuals from all over North America; with a combined 30 years of experience in the entertainment and marketing industry. The organizational team has done various events and culture shows ranging up to 10,000 attendees. This year’s event is expected to sell out at over 500 attending guests.
Performing groups will compete for the top three prizes, which will be awarded to the teams that display a varied and vivid array of dances. The winning performances will also explore the connection between the roots of Punjab and themselves, by incorporating Punjabi customs and traditions within their routine. In addition, a Viewer’s Choice award will also presented to the team chosen as the audience favourite.
